I sat in the living room on the couch, silently freaking out. This morning Akaashi got a call from his mother inviting us to dinner tonight. Of course we were going, and I could tell Akaashi was excited. I mean, so am I. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified. They're his parents! We've been together almost three months and I don't even know what they look like. There are no pictures of anyone in this house. There's a baby book with Akaashi's name on it that I've seen in the drawer of the entertainment center, but I didn't have the courage to ask to see it.
Okay now I'm thinking what my boyfriend looked like as a baby.
"What are you staring at?" Akaashi held out a cup of water and I took it. He followed my gaze to the entertainment center.
"Nothing." I moved over to let him sit down beside me. I glanced at his face. "We need to get rid of that hickey before tonight."
"I'm not getting rid of it."
I gave him a confused look. "But your parents are going to see it. And then people at school, too, come Monday."
"That's what makes it fun. We'll use makeup or something to cover it for tonight."
"We'd have to go to a store since I don't have anything to match your skin tone." I took a couple seconds to think. "Why don't we go to a makeup counter in the mall? They can color correct the red and purple and actually use foundation or concealer to cover it up. And we won't have to buy products, just pay for the service or whatever."
"Sounds like a plan. Now c'mere, I didn't get to have my morning cuddles since Mom called." I leaned against him. His arm came around my shoulder and he pulled me close. "Are you okay? You looked distracted."
"A bit worried about tonight if I'm being honest," I said, my voice coming out softer than I intended.
His hand began to rub my arm soothingly. "They're going to love you. I know it."
"I don't even know what they look like. I feel so.. unprepared? I don't know, it's just a bit scary."
"It wasn't scary meeting your parents."
"My parents are a different breed."
He chuckled, making me smile. "Don't worry. My parents are going to see how amazing you are. When we're at the mall let's get lunch or something to calm you down. For now just be here with me." He turned my face gently and kissed my lips, leaning his forehead against mine. "You're my favorite person in this world," he whispered. He never fails to make my heart melt.

I looked over the makeup artist's shoulder as she applied a setting powder over the foundation, concealer and color corrector she had applied to Akaashi's jaw. You would never be able to tell there was a hickey. Since dinner was going to be tonight at a semi-dark place, we were set.
She scanned her work before turning and putting all her things away. "I shouldn't complain because I just got paid, but next time you kids should just leave hickeys in places other people aren't going to see." My cheeks warmed in embarrassment. "Alright, you," she pointed at Akaashi, "out of my chair. I have an appointment in 10." She gave us a receipt before waving us off. I gave her a smile and turned to leave.
Akaashi laced his fingers through mine. "I love you."
My heart fluttered. "You're being cheeky today."
"Baby, say it back," he whined.
I laughed, my heart doing flips and my legs feeling weak. "I love you."
