It had been working.
The curse was broken, Klaus had felt it break. It was working as the moon shone down on him and forced his bones to break and reshape. It was working.
And then it wasn't because Klaus's screams of relief turned into screams of agony due to some witchy interference as he was thrown onto the ground.
Bonnie Bennet took slow steps through the quarry as she held out her hand, fires blazing as she walked and her chanting audible over the sound of the roaring wind.
Greta raised her hands to stop Bonnie before Damon appeared behind her and snapped her neck and Bonnie's chanting grew louder as she channelled the power of a hundred dead witches. Damon then picked up Elena's dead body as he made his way over to his brother and Klaus continued bellowing in pain on the ground."No!" he growled, Elena's blood still dripping down his face as his fangs grazed his lips. "You were dead."
And Bonnie's whole body shuddered as she channelled more magic than what should be possible and fire surrounded Klaus as his body jerked and twitched with every move of Bonnie's hand. His screams only grew louder as his torment grew worse, the pain indescribable as he lost all sense of being, of who and where he was. A thousand years of memories and identity were lost as he bucked on the ground, the veins in his neck pulsing as he screamed bloody murder.
Thunder boomed and lightning cracked as Bonnie continued her spell, Damon speeding off with Elena as Stefan stayed behind to ensure Klaus's body would add to the dead bodies of Jules and Jenna still lying on the floor.Klaus's head was propped against a rock as Bonnie stopped chanting, allowing him a single moment of blessed relief as he regained his faculties. Stefan brought himself up to his feet as he staggered over to Bonnie's side and they both stared at the sight of Elijah as he stood over Klaus.
"Hello brother," Elijah greeted and Klaus seemed happy for a second before Elijah plunged his hand into Klaus's chest, his fist enclosing his heart. Klaus gasped in pain as Elijah said, "In the name of our family, Niklaus."
He sounded as if he was about to go on when a new voice interrupted, "You are a difficult man to find Elijah, yet somehow so predictable."
All three heads turned to where Isa stood. Stefan and Bonnie were confused but Elijah was shocked.
"Isa," he gaped.
The woman merely stuck her hands in her jacket pockets. "He didn't bury them at sea Elijah, so I kindly suggest that you take your hand out of my husband's chest."
Stefan and Bonnie's eyes widened in shock as they could do nothing but listen, but Elijah's hand stayed firmly in Klaus's chest.
"What?!" he asked in disbelief.
Isa just rolled her eyes. "I don't know who told you he buried them at sea, but you really must be daft if you think I'd let him do that. They are safe, I promise you."
"If you kill me.... You'll never find them," Klaus groaned.
"Elijah! Don't listen to them!" Stefan yelled as he watched Elijah contemplate their words, and it looked as if they were winning him over.
"Elijah....I can take you to them. I give you my word, brother," Klaus whispered, Isa's heart contracting at the amount of pain he sounded to be in.
"Do it and I take you both out," Bonnie threatened.
"You'll die," Elijah pointed out.
"I don't care."
"What he meant is, you'd die before you could try," Isa spoke, glaring at Bonnie as Stefan moved in front of her protectively, not that he'd last two seconds against the Original Wife.
"Brother," Klaus begged and that one word seemed to seal the deal.
"I'm sorry," Elijah said to the pair before he vanished, taking Klaus with him as they jumped over the wall of fire Bonnie erected.
"No!" Stefan and Bonnie screamed as they tried to run to him, a futile effort for they were already gone.
"Oh yes!" came Isa's voice as she smiled wickedly at them, her face golden in the firelight as they turned. "Toodles," she said as she wriggled her fingers in goodbye before vanishing after her family, leaving Stefan and Bonnie shocked and standing in a clearing of fire, blood and dead bodies.

Klaus woke on the forest floor, covered in dirt and leaves as the sun warmed his skin. And he lay there for a second as he let the feeling sink in. It was euphoric. It was freeing, the feeling of finally being able to be himself.
"As much as I love the view, Nik, put some clothes on," came the sweetest of voices as clothes were thrown on the ground next to him. Klaus looked up to see his wife leaning against a tree as she smiled at him.
"That was amazing," he said as he stood, pulling on the boxers he'd found amongst the pile of clothes. "How long has it been?"
"Almost two days," Isa replied as she smirked at the sight of her husband pulling a pair of pants up his long muscled legs. "The full moon came and went and yet you remained a wolf," she informed.
"I can change at will then. That's good to know," he smiled at Isa who smiled back as he zipped his jeans. "I remember every single kill," he revealed as he finished adjusting his belt.
"Elijah's been cleaning up your messes. He should be along shortly," she said as she stared down at the small watch on her left wrist. "So, you should prepare yourself for that lecture."
"Just like old times then," Klaus laughed.
"Well, you've had your fun Niklaus, now I believe we had a bargain," came Elijah's voice as he appeared from thin air on the other side of the tree Isa leant on.
"Speak of the devil, and the devil shall appear," Isa said jovially to her husband, who grinned at her and her devil-red lips.
"That's right," Klaus said to Elijah as he bent to put on his shoes. "Now what was it again? Oh, yeah, wait, I remember. You wish to be reunited with our family."
"You gave me your word, Niklaus," Elijah said as he dusted off Klaus's jacket.
"What kind of brother would break his bond? Even though you did try to kill me," Klaus said giving Elijah a small glare as he pulled his shirt over his head.
"I could have," Elijah pointed out as he held out Klaus's jacket for him to put on. "But I didn't."
"Now no one can. Not even you," Klaus said as he turned to face his brother. "Relax Elijah. All is forgiven."
Elijah's face remained steeled. "Where are they?"
Klaus broke into a smile as he playfully hit his brother's arm. "You need to lighten up. I'll bring them to you soon enough," he said as he turned to face Isa. "Right now, though, I'm in desperate need to spend some time with my girl," he said smirking a smirk that made Isa smile. She felt warm all over as she rushed into his arms.
Elijah gave a small smile before turning away as their lips met.
She pulled away rather quickly though as she pulled out a handkerchief and began to wipe away the dirt that covered Klaus's face before he couldn't help it as he kissed his wife again.
Elijah couldn't help but admit it. His brother may have been heartless at times, but when it came to Isa, she had his whole heart, always.
