It had been a day, to say the least. Isa found another white oak stake, Nik snapped Alaric's neck because his vampire-hating/hunting alter ego had hidden the last one, and she and her husband had walked in on Rebekah standing over Esther's dead body. Then they had gone over to the Salvatores, Rebekah leaving with Alaric for the last white oak stake. It had been a day.
It was now the next day and Isa sat, photographing Nik as he painted when Rebekah waltzed in.
"What took you so long?" he asked, not looking away from his canvas.
"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake. Luckily, I'm quite the charmer," she said as she held up the wood. "Do you want to do the honours or shall I?" she asked holding out the stake to Nik who promptly took it and threw it into the fire. However, as Rebekah had spoken, Isa frowned. Something wasn't right.
"Pack your bags, we're leaving," he said turning back to his painting and Rebekah froze as she started to walk out of the room.
"Today?"
"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here. And I'd to get myself, my wife, and my little sister, as far away from people trying to kill us as possible," Klaus said.
"Good. Let's go," Isa agreed as she went back to photographing her husband.
"But tonight's the decade dance," Rebekah said.
"So?" Isa asked.
"So, I'm head of the committee. We have to go," she pressed and again Isa couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
"We are not going to any dance," Nik said gesturing between him and his wife with the end of a clean paintbrush before dipping it into his palette.
"Especially considering last time we had a dance our mother tried to kill us," Isa said and Rebekah stiffened.
Why wasn't she making a bigger deal out of this? She would've made a big song and dance about not being able to go to the decade dance, why was she so calm?
"Please! I have big plans for tonight. Just go for me please," she begged but Isa didn't like her tone.
Nik sighed as he set down his brush and palette, turning to face his sister. This was one of the more reasonable things she asked for and Nik often times had trouble saying no to her. "Ok, fine," he relented, and Rebekah beamed. "One last hurrah," he said looking between his girls as he reached a hand towards Isa who gripped it and kissed the back of it softly.
"One last hurrah," they echoed.
********************************
After a truly horrid evening, Nik and Isa had gone to the dance only to have Rebekah bail on them. Turns out Isa's feeling was right, Rebekah wasn't Rebekah. Esther thought it smart to possess her daughter and give Klaus a fake stake to burn. Then she daggered Rebekah when she was done with her body and tried to turn Alaric Saltzman into an Original vampire hunter with a magic white oak stake that didn't burn when impaled into an Original, all while trapping all supernatural creatures inside the high school so they couldn't leave and stop her.
The joke was on her because Esther had been stopped and killed again, after she conspired with Elena to turn Alaric who was now dead. And then Niklaus had, had a meltdown at her mother's coffin after reviving Rebekah. He broke down in tears wondering why the parents he loved despite everything, the parents he only wanted to please, and why they only ever wanted to kill him.
Isa had comforted him before leaving in the morning to help Rebekah clean up after the dance. She'd begged for her sister's company since she didn't even get to attend the stupid dance in the first place. And, like her husband, she couldn't say no to her.
