(A/N: Hope you enjoy seeing how Nik and Isa met. XxD)
*****************************************************************
Isa sat between Klaus and Elijah, as close to the former as she could get. She had decided to take pity on her husband and wear the green dress he got for her a few days ago. It was a deep, but bold-coloured emerald green cocktail dress that hugged her body and matched her eyes, with matching black stilettos covering her feet as they tangled with Nik's beneath the table. The salad appetisers sat in front of them as most of them picked at the food with their forks but few actually made a move to eat.
"Stefan, where is the lovely Elena tonight?" Elijah asked, unaware of the latest status of the love triangle.
"I don't know, ask Damon," Stefan answered.
Isa had to smile at that as Nik laughed at the confused look on Elijah's face. "I'm sorry, you've missed so much," Nik smiled as informed his brother. "Trouble in paradise."
"One more word, about Elena, and this dinner is over," Stefan said with a false smile.
"Hey, you know what?" Damon asked as Isa took another sip of her wine. "Probably best to keep Elena, in the do not discuss pile," he said as Klaus held a finger to his grinning lips.
"You're probably right," Klaus said as he continued eating.
"Though the allure of the Petrova doppelganger is understandably so strong. What do you say, brother? Shall we tell them about Tatia?" Elijah proposed and Isa stiffened, Klaus's hand instantly going for hers as the Salvatore brothers watched the scene intently as the tension became even more unbearable.
Isa's eyes were kept on her plate as Klaus said, "Now why would we discuss matters long since resolved?"
"Our guests both share affection for both Elena and Katrina, I'd wager they'd be curious about the originator of the Petrova line," he reasoned and Isa couldn't breathe and as the room began to close in on her.
"I, uh, I need some air," Isa said as she wiped off her mouth with her napkin and stood.
"Love?" Klaus asked cautiously.
"No, Nik. Tell the story. They should know. I just can't be here for it, living it was enough," Isa replied as she disappeared up the stairs.
"Well, if I wasn't curious before, I am now," Damon remarked as the sound of Isa's footsteps faded and he picked up his wine glass, Klaus's face fixed in a hard glare.
"The story of Tatia, is also the story of how my wife and I met," Klaus began and both Damon and Stefan sat up straighter in intrigue. They were both curious as to how a woman like Isa could love a man like Klaus. In actuality, how could she not have fallen in love with him after everything that happened?
"When our family first settled here, there was a girl named Tatia," Elijah began. "She was an exquisite beauty. Every boy of age desired to be her suitor, even though she'd had a child by another man. None loved her more than Niklaus."
Klaus's face was blank of emotion as he said, "I'd say there was one who loved her at least as much."
"Wait a minute. So, you both loved the same girl?" Stefan clarified, a cocky smile on his face.
Klaus sat back in his chair, his salad still untouched. "The women of the Petrova line seem to have a hereditary trait of coming between brothers. A trait that has not changed over the course of a thousand years."
"Wait, so, who ended up with Tatia then?" Damon asked.
"Elijah. By the time it came for Tatia to choose, I had no longer desired to be with her," Klaus answered.
