Bombs Go with Wings

The escape

Kai's POV

We had to get out of here. The building shook and I heard a lot of commotion happen from outside.

"It's showtime" the rat smiled darkly at me.

With his newfound confidence, he charged up his hands and was preparing to fire.

"Not the door! It won't break through! Try an outerwall!" I pointed to the wall besides him

It wasn't load bearing, it shouldn't make the room collapse, and I wasn't sure what damage the explosion outside did. A loud roar and the scent of gasoline overwhelmed my senses. There was now a hole.

"Why didn't you say this earlier birdy!" He snapped at me

He grabbed me by my collar before I could respond and threw me through the hole.

"IDIOT" we were now falling out of a 6 story building.

Thinking quickly, I grabbed onto him and spread my wings trying to break our fall, it was no use though, after my injury, I couldn't support the both of us. The rat must've noticed this and used his blasts to slow us down. With a not so soft 'thump' we were both on the ground outside. I had landed weird on my foot and stumbled. If he gave me more warning, I would've been prepared for a hard landing.

"You're utterly useless, you know that?" he glared at me.

I didn't respond. He might've been a huge asshole, but at least he was good in crisis. He was also right, I was useless. I couldn't even stop us from falling. I looked at my damaged wing, and my ankle. I am a mess. This shouldn't have been able to hold me back as much as it is now. Another explosion erupted and it wasn't from my newfound friend. Rock and debris flew towards us.

"Get out of the FUCKING WAY"

I was tackled to the ground by the rat and he was hovering over me. Part of the building had collapsed and came tumbling towards us. He had saved me. His eyes were narrow and red. His hair was just absolutely out of control. His body toned, he was attractive but I wasn't very interested. I know he was at least attracted to me. I felt that earlier. Or that could've been his sick attraction to conflict. Who the hell knows. He smelled of gasoline and mint. His face came too close to mine. My mask had fallen to my neck in the fall, I bared my teeth, exposing my fangs. He looked taken aback.

"I get it that you're useless and all, but can you not be a fucking hazard!" he spat in my face.

I was getting annoyed, I pushed him off of me. I should've been paying attention. I shouldn't have needed saving. Pathetic. My ego bruised, I got up and surveyed the area. It seemed that whoever caused the blast was at the otherside of the building most likely fighting with the villains in the bar. At the corner of my eye I saw light reflecting off of a smooth surface. I ran towards the gleam of light

"Hey wait!!" the rat ran after me

I don't get why he needs to be near me. We can go our separate ways now. I reached the gleam, it was my knives. I took a few and put them into my suit. The rat watched our surroundings as I got situated. I turned to him.

"We need a plan"

"Get out of here and kick ass" he said proudly

I looked at him exasperated. This asshole had no idea what he was getting into. He had no plan, he was just going to run into this head on "ummm... we need something more concrete than that!"

In that instant we were surrounded by the villains from the bar. Subconsciously I looked for Dabi. He wasn't there. Worry began to eat away at me, but he hadn't been worried about me. He was prepared to hurt me, so why should I care. I was conflicted. No one I recognized was here.
