A Promise

The dryer buzzed letting us know that our clothes were done drying. Bakugo hissed. I laughed. The mood was ruined. He adjusted himself and angrily threw our clothes into a basket.

We gathered our things and headed back up to our rooms. The elevator ride was quiet. Bakugo carried my laundry refusing to let me do anything. I leaned against him and I felt his hand snake around my waist. I like this a lot.

Bakugo followed me to my room. He laid on my bed and turned on the Tv for background noise. He played on his phone. I was eloped in comfortable silence between us. I folded my clothes and he started to help me. A voice from the TV disrupted my bliss.

"There had been a number of bodies reported being burned to dust in the alley of Staeger street. We are unsure of the villains behind this, but rest assured, the police who are joined by pro heroes are on the case."

I stopped in my tracks. That attack was near my apartment. And it was definitely Dabi. Why would he do something that bold? He has to be distracting for something else that's going on. Or he was attacked. I felt an unsettling amount of panic. Could someone be looking for me and find Dabi instead. Visions of the figures kicking me to the ground appeared again. I shut my eyes and fought panic.

Bakugo eyed me cautiously, "You okay Kai?" I felt his hands rub my back. My wings twitched.

I shook it off, "Yeah I'm fine. I just hate the news. They never report anything good anymore."

I stiffly continued to put away my clothes and Bakugo watched me carefully. He wasn't stupid, he was incredibly perceptive. He turned off the Tv and glared at me.

"I don't like lying Kai, don't do it again." He got up and got closer to me, "I remember that area." He grabbed my chin gently and tilted my head up to look at him, "As long as I am around, I will never let anyone touch you. I will kill them before they get a chance. You're mine remember?"

"You can't make promises like that." I became unreasonably angry, "You barely know me, and you have no idea who you're even protecting me from. You think you and your savior complex are going to save the day? You're an idiot, and where I'm from, idiots die."

My wings flared out. I didn't know where this all came from. I was surprised to hear Bakugo's laugh.

"I am the best, I am the strongest and the person who is going to go above and beyond for you. You think the thought of death scares me? I'm the one who will be doing the killing." He got in my face, "Being a hero means you need to win no matter what," He growled lowly, "I will bury anyone who looks at you the wrong way. The day I lose, is the day I am no longer a hero, and I am undeserving of you." He smiled darkly at me, "You think I'd be willing to protect a weakling? You have me fucked up. You're strong and a worthy opponent to me, an equal even. That's why I protect Kirishima. That is why I will protect you."

He looked at me with such conviction. A fierce energy surrounded us. For the first time in a long time, I felt genuinely safe. Someone understood me. They didn't use me as a sheath for their dick, a sparring partner or a sidekick. I felt seen and heard. I felt powerful.

I deemed this something that all relationships should have.
