Kayleigh's POV:

My head was spinning right now. Everything was confusing. First, I find out that my father used to run the American Mafia. Second, I find out that the man who had been after Leandro and his family was my uncle. And now this?! Someone had put a bounty on my fucking head and the reward was $500-million.

My life was slowly falling apart. How did I get here? It was supposed to be a vacation with my friends and my sister. It wasn't supposed to go like this. To be honest, I would've preferred being kept in the dark than witnessing this shit show. And somehow, I keep thinking that if Leandro hadn't brought me here in the first place, all if this wouldn't have happened.

Speaking of Leandro, he's been acting super weird. He acts like he cares about what happens to me. Or maybe he does? I honestly don't know. All I know is that I wish all of this would've never happened. I had a normal life before all of this. I could walk down the streets without any fear of getting killed. Now I didn't know who to trust. I mean, all these people in here stand to benefit a lot from killing me.

My dad bent down to my level and placed my hands in his. "Sweetheart, look at me." I did as told. I know he could see how scared I was and I could see that he was scared too, even though he tried to hide it. He knew his daughter could die any moment now. "I know you're scared, Kayleigh. But I'm here and I'm gonna protect you with everything I got, alright? Even if I die trying, I won't ever let anyone hurt you, baby girl."

My eyes started watering and I looked around the room before turning to my dad again. "Why me though, Dad? What did I do? Why can't I just have a normal life? I lost my mom and sister at the age of five. I got dragged into this whole mafia bullshit." I glanced at Leandro. "And now this? I'm gonna die. And for what? What did I do to deserve this?"

My father's eyes watered and he dropped his head, trying to hide his tears from me. I grabbed the sides of his face and forced him to look me in the eye. I wanted to be so mad at him from hiding all this information from me. I wanted to hate him after he told me that he regretted ever having me. But even after all those things, he was still my father. The first man I grew to love. My protecter.

I wiped his tears while my own tears started dropping. He took my hands and kissed the back of both of them. He got up and sat next to me on the couch. He pulled me closer and made me lay my head on his chest, like I would do when I was younger. His hands started raking my hair and he pressed a kiss on top of my head.

He cleared his throat and started talking, "Your mother knew it would get to this point but I didn't believe her. I didn't want to." I furrowed my eyebrows. My mom knew about my dad being involved with the mafia? "She said one day they were going to come for you. I told her not to worry, that she was paranoid, but she was right and I was wrong. It wasn't supposed to go this way. I had done such a good job keeping you hidden. And now this happens. I'm so sorry, Ella."

He started sobbing, breaking my heart with every painful sob he let out. I tried comforting him but he raised his hand and shook his head, stopping me. He quickly wiped off his tears and regained his composure. He cleared his throat and sat up straight.

"See, you're a special young girl. You have a pure soul, Kayleigh. That's why your maternal grandfather was so adamant about us naming you Katya. He knew from the moment he carried you in his arms for the first time. He told us that you were going to be our greatest challenge, and you are. You were you're grandpa's favorite. And not many people liked that. Your uncle was one of them."
