Writer's POV:

It was only now 4am and it was still dark outside. Leandro was the only one awake since he couldn't sleep. He was worried about Kayleigh, she would wake up screaming because of a nightmare. He would hold her tight and tell her everything was okay, but everything was far from okay and he knew that. Things were about to get more intense.

Leandro had a lot on his mind. Things were falling apart and poor Kayleigh was in the middle of everything. He despised that fact because he knew it was his fault. He looked down at Kayleigh who was still sleeping, she had a little frown on her face and her brows were furrowed together.

He ran his thumb across her bottom lip. What was I thinking bringing you into this awful life? He thought to himself. "I couldn't help it. When I saw those beautiful brown eyes of yours, I just knew I had to take you. That look in your eyes meant something. I realize now that I was being selfish and not thinking about how this life would affect you. I'm so sorry, butterfly."

Kayleigh whimpered and held on to him. Her eyes were still closed and that was how Leandro knew she was having a nightmare once again. He sighed and wrapped his arm around her waist.

Time passed by fast, it was now 8am and the sun was out. Kayleigh was now waking up. The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Leandro staring right at her. "Good morning." She said in a soft voice. Leandro didn't respond, instead he got up, put on his shirt and left the room. Kayleigh was left confused. They were okay last night and now he was acting cold towards her. She got up from the bed and followed after him. "Uh, Leandro? Is everything okay? Did I do something wrong?"

They both walked into the kitchen. Leandro opened the fridge and turned to Kayleigh. "What do you want to eat for breakfast? There's cereal, eggs or I can make pancakes. Your choice." He said, totally ignoring her question.

Annoyed, Kayleigh stepped in front of him and slammed the fridge door. Leandro gave her a threatening glare but Kayleigh wasn't fased by it, not even in the slightest bit, she was used to it by now. "Don't do that." Leandro gave her a confused look. Kayleigh raised her eyebrow, "You can't just comfort me during night time and ignore me during day time. If there's something wrong I did, you should tell me right now."

Clenching his jaw, Leandro grabbed the back of Kayleigh's thighs and picked her up, before placing her on top of the kitchen counter. Kayleigh squealed, surprised by the sudden movement. "Last night, instead of blaming me, you said something weird." He gave her a cold glare, like he was distant. "You said a part of you was glad that I brought you here. Did you actually mean that?"

Kayleigh gulped, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Yes, I meant it. Because of you, I got to meet your family, who happen to be the nicest people even though they work with the mafia." She caressed his cheek and whispered; "And because I met you, Leandro."

Leandro clenched his jaw and closed his eyes. Kayleigh was anxious to hear what he had to say. Leandro removed her hand, "Kayleigh, I'm a Mafia boss, the one at the top. I'm a criminal, drug dealer, murderer--"

"With a good heart, though." Leandro scoffed and shook his head. "Leandro, I've seen how you act around the ones you love. You protect them at all cost and want the best for them, even if that means you have to kill a few people, sell drugs and do business with dangerous people."
