These past couple of weeks have gone way too fast for my liking.
Its now Wednesday, two weeks later, and this Friday we are doing the speeches. So I'm sat in the hall, and we're going through the lighting and the microphones for the speech.
I'm eating my lunch sat here as I'm watching them all sort it out.
I take a bite of my sandwich and just watch as people run around frantically.
What's going on?
I'm so out of the loop.
"Kaya" i say stopping one of the younger students, "What's going on?"
"Leslie has strep, she can't do the speech" kaya tells me
"Oh shit" I say and she nods before running off
I look over to Miss Wilson who is talking to the younger students.
I'm just sat by myself.
All of a sudden a massive spotlight is on me, I look up and double back and trip over some chairs, "ALEX!"
I hear his laugh echo throughout the hall.
"Stop blinding me you dickhead!" I shout at him
"Stop blinding her Alex!" I hear Mr Martin shout
"Fine sir" Alex grumbles and moves the lights away before turning them off completely.
"Alex!" I hear Miss Wilson shriek, "turn these lights on now!"
"Full beam!" He shouts and all of the lights turn on and I blink a few times and I'm seeing colours.
I get up and flip him off in his booth at the back of the hall and he smirks amused.
"Ella, do you want to go up and test the microphone?" Miss Wilson asks
"Okay" i say and I walk up on stage and stand behind the podium and as natural reflex and I put my hands on either side of the podium.
"Good stance" Mr Smith tells me, hes the other who's running this
"Thanks" i say
"Uh" i say into the mic, "testing, one two"
"Real predictable Ella" Alex says and I glare at him
"Come on Alex, give me some light and go up with the microphone by two" i say
He puts the spotlight on me.
"Dim it please" i say and he does, "a bit more"
He dims it to the perfect brightness, "much better, oh would you look at that, the mic is great too"
"I'll take credit for that" Alex says
"Umm I don't think so, I told you what to change it to" I say but stop talking when I see him eat some chocolate from a purple wrapper and I gasp
"I knew you liked the chocolate!" I say smiling
"What are you on about now?" Mr Martin asks sitting down in the front row
"I gave him some chocolate the other week, milka. Best chocolate out there, apart from Cadbury's, anyway. He said it was just alright and now look and who's eating it" i say
"I love milka, I got in for the first time in Spain" Mr Martin says
"Sir, this is why your my favourite teacher. Moments like this make you realise how-"
"How annoying you are?" Alex interrupts and Mr Martin laughs
"It's no funny" I say, "sir you've been demoted, Miss Wilson your up"
She laughs and i smile before she talks to the younger students again to seem to be having a massive group mental breakdown.
"Sir come on, tell us what's happening. Who's doing the speech?" I ask him
"None of them have the confidence to do it, but I think Kaya might do it" he says and i nod
"Hopefully it all works out" i say
"Hopefully you get first place so I can leave this... in Ellas words organisation" Alex says sitting next to Mr Martin but a few seats away
"What about you?" Mr Martin asks me, "are you ready?"
"Yeah I'm ready, I've been practicing and learning it" i say
"Good, well since it's being live streamed I thought you'd be nervous but I guess your not" he says
"It's been live streamed?" I ask, my voice going high pitch
"Yes. Why is that a problem?" He asks me
Yes.
I clear my throat, "no, not at all"
What if people recognise me? What if it all goes tits up? This is going to go bad!
"Ella calm down, you look like you're about to shit yourself" Alex says
"I'm not stressing, it's cool whatever" I say leaning against the podium.
"Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool. No doubt no doubt no doubt" i mumble.
I am stressing.
This is bad.
