It has been a week since Isaac and I got engaged, everyone is happy for us, we're happy too. Today Isaac is at work, so am I. Kaitlyn and I are just going round Starbucks, clearing tables and cleaning the crumbs and little patches of spilled drinks off them.
"Hazel, I need to talk to you about something. After work could you maybe come round mine for a bit?" She asks me as she cleans the table next to the one I'm cleaning.
"Sure. Are you all right? You look like you're trying to hold down some sick." I ask.
"I am." She says.
"If you're sick you should have called and said you couldn't come in today. Mandy wouldn't have minded." I tell her, Mandy is our boss.
"I'm not sick." She says before walking to another table that needs cleaning.
...
We work for another five hours, cleaning tables, serving customers, working behind the till, making drinks, etc. before getting in our cars and heading to Kaitlyn's house.
When we arrive she leads me to her bedroom and shuts the door behind us. We sit on her bed and she hugs one of her many pillows to her chest, silent.
"Kaitlyn, what's wrong?" I ask her, worried.
"I-I. Uh." She stutters.
"Kaitlyn, you can tell me anything, you know that, right?" I say.
"I know. I'm just... scared." She says.
"Scared of what?" I ask.
"I-I'm... pregnant." She tells me, quietly. So quietly I could barely hear what she said.
"What?" I ask.
"I'm having a baby." She says, louder.
"Oh. What are you scared about?" I ask.
"Not being a good mum, Sam leaving me, not having enough money to raise a baby, giving birth, being alone, my parents not wanting me anymore, everything." She answers.
"Kaitlyn, Sam loves you, he's not going to leave you, and if he does then I will personally kick him where the sun doesn't shine. You're not going to be alone because I'm here, Isaac's here, my dad, your parents, Lidewij, Bas, Peter, Gus' parents, Sam's parents, everyone, we're all here for you. You're amazing with the twins, and Rosalie, so I know you're going to be a great mum. Sam works, you work, we all, except my dad work, and we can help you out just like everyone helps me out. Giving birth, although it is scary and painful, you're not going to be alone, and you'll have your baby at the end of it, think about that, the entire time you're in labour, and it'll make it easier, not much easier because it still hurts, but it makes it easier to deal with. Also you can always get an epidural or something. You're parents are still going to want you. We'll all be with you, every step of the way, you're going to be fine, Kaitlyn." I tell her.
"What if something goes wrong?" She asks, crying now.
"We'll still be with you, all of us will. I promise." I say. "You and that baby are going to be fine." I embrace her and she cries into me.
I just hold her as she cries. We stay like that until she calms down.
"How far along are you?" I ask.
"Four weeks." She replies, placing her right hand on her stomach.
"You're going to be fine Kaitlyn, I promise." I tell her.
"Have you and Isaac had sex yet?" She asks when she's calm, smiling at me.
"Nope. We're taking it slow." I say.
...
Two hours later I head home. I enter the house to find my dad, Isaac and the twins in the living room, playing with some toys together, on the floor.
They all look up at me and smile.
"Mummy!" Infinity yells excitedly before coming to me. I pick her up and place her on my hip before sitting down with her on the sofa.
"Hey sweetie!" I say, kissing her cheek.
"Where have you been?" Isaac asks, coming up to me and kissing me sweetly.
"Oh, Kaitlyn wanted to talk so we went back to her house. Sorry." I say.
"It's fine. Is everything okay?" He asks.
"Yeah, she just wanted some reassurance and stuff." I tell him.
Gus comes over and sits next to me, embracing me.
"Hey Gus!" I say, kissing his cheek as well.
"I'm going to put dinner on." Dad says before kissing my forehead and heading into the kitchen.
"Do you guys want to watch a movie?" Isaac asks. The twins nod enthusiastically so Isaac goes and puts a child friendly movie on, we all watch the movie together, like a family.
...
Later that night, when the twins and dad are in their beds, asleep. Isaac and I are in the living room, watching something stupid on TV and not really paying attention. His arms are around me, my head is on his shoulder, my feet tucked next to me on the sofa.
"What did Kaitlyn want to talk about?" He asks.
"I think she wants to tell you all at the same time, but she's pregnant. Just act surprised when she tells you all." I say.
"Wow." He says.
"Yeah, she's going to be a great mum." I reply.
"Yeah, she is. Has she told Sam yet?" He asks.
"She hadn't when she told me. She was scared about a load of things but I reassured her." I tell him.
"You're an amazing person, you know." He says.
"Thanks. You're an amazing person, too." I say, looking up at him.
"Thanks." He says before kissing me. I kiss back and it isn't long before it turns into a make-out session.
"Sorry, did that go too far?" He says when I pull back after his slides his hands under my t-shirt.
"No, I'm fine." I tell him, I'm straddling him by this point, but I don't move from my position.
"Okay. When do you want to get married?" He asks.
"I don't know. When do you want to get married?" I ask.
"I was thinking, maybe the day after the twins' fourth birthday. But it's up to you." He answers.
"No, that's a great idea. It means we can spend most of their birthday with the twins then we can get married the day after and it would be like another birthday present for them. Also, Kaitlyn said she doesn't want us to get married until after she's had the baby so she isn't fat. So yeah, that's perfect." I say.
"Okay, then, do you want to go on a honeymoon?" He asks.
"Yeah, okay. Where to?" I reply.
"Amsterdam, obviously. For a week maybe." He says.
"That's perfect." I say, smiling. "I love you."
"I love you, too." He says before kissing me.
When we pull back I yawn, not realising how tired I am.
"Go to bed and get some sleep. I should probably get going anyway." He says.
"No. Stay, please." I tell him.
"Okay. Let's get you to bed." He says.
He turns off the TV and we walk upstairs, hand in hand, entering my bedroom and crawling into my bed.
He wraps his arms around me and I lay my head on his chest, listening to his heart beating.
"Goodnight Hazel." He says.
"Goodnight Isaac." I say before closing my eyes and drifting into a peaceful sleep.
