A dark grey ceiling was the first thing that greeted Kogami when he opened his eyes; mind unaware of location and time. He stared blankly at it for sometime until he finally registered the shouts coming from around him.

"Kogami!" Ginoza's loud and slightly concerned voice brought Kogami down to earth and he looked at Ginoza. He slowly started to take in his surroundings and he found that he was lying in a bed in the infirmary of the MWPSB office. He also became attentive of the enforces' presence in the room. All of them were equally concerned.

"What happened!?" Ginoza's booming voice rang in Kogami's ear and the man raised a hand to clutch his head.

"He's still under the effects of the drug so I think it's best to keep our voices down." Karanomori warned Ginoza which made the man click his tongue in annoyance.

"If Blue Ice was found in his system, then we can safely say Kogami had encountered the criminal!" Ginoza yelled.

"Wait wait! I have a question! We've been talking about this Blue Ice thing for a while now but can someone tell me what the heck is that!??" Kagari spoke out midst the serious atmosphere which earned him a smack on the head from Masaoka.

"OWWW! what was that for, pops!?" Kagari cried out dramatically.

"For not listening to the previous meetings." The old man calmly said.

"It's a new drug that penetrates the skin upon just a touch and renders people unconscious. And it stays in the system for only an hour before the compounds break down and turn into water. That's why it's so hard to detect it's presence" Karanomori explained to Kagari and the young man nodded in astonishment.

"Luckily, we brought Kogami back in time and tested his blood sample." Ginoza added.

While the explanation was going on, Kogami once again zoned out into his own world. He knew about the drug but finally found out how (Y/N) was always winning against him. Her secret lied in a dirty little trick. Kogami felt foolish.

He fell deeper into his world and the images he saw previously that day was surfacing. (Y/N), her blood stained hands, the mutilated corpses. The encounter played like a movie in his head.

"Kogami. You need to tell us what happened." Ginoza's voice was stern, somewhat hopeful and desperate. It was important to him, the reputation of the MWPSB was on the line. The recent series of murders weren't being swiped under the rug. It was all over the news. The pressure was building up on the police to find the criminal and Ginoza, having his pride and justice, wanted to solve this as quickly as possible.

Kogami on the other hand was another story. He didn't know why but he was being driven by his emotions. He looked up and looked into Ginoza's eyes but before he could open his mouth, images of Sasayama flashed before his eyes.

Kogami's words got caught in his throat as everything played before his eyes which ended in the dreaded image that haunts him every day and night.

Sasayama's corpse.

Kogami groaned and clutched his head again.

"I don't know. All I remember is I walked into that garage and saw the dead body before I blacked out." Kogami's emotions forced a well structured lie out of him. He had no choice. He had to lie. He was selfish but it was all for Sasayama's sake. He will do everything he has to do to remove that horrid image from his head. And sadly (Y/N) was his only option. If she gets caught, Kogami knew his chances of vengeance would be gone.

He heard groans and sighs of disappointed from everyone around him as he kept his throbbing head down.

"Damn it! We were so close! They got away again!" Ginoza yelled out in frustration.

"Wait. It's not all futile. We know Blue Ice was used. And we definitely know how expensive it is. I don't think just anyone can do this crime. We may find a lead if we search into this." Masaoka's words felt like new hope to the team while Kogami's stomach twisted in an unpleasant feeling.

Everyone just nodded and started to head out of the room. Kogami sat up and went to do the same but was stopped by Karanomori.

"Not you, Shin-chan. You're staying until tomorrow morning." Karanomori said and helped Kogami lay down. She fixed somethings before she walked out of the room, leaving Kogami alone to his thoughts.

The silence was suffocating but his thoughts were worse. The weight of it was crushing his chest.

What was he doing?

Kogami couldn't answer that. He couldn't answer the question either if it was changed to why.

His sadness was driving him and he didn't want it to stop. He wanted justice for Sasayama and he was going to get it no matter what.

But the other part of him debated if the justice was worth innocent lives.

He came to the conclusion that it wasn't. That's why he needed his answers as fast as possible so he could finally bring (Y/N) to justice.
