Chapter 7 (part 2)

(Y/N) gently took Kogami's hand and placed the other on his shoulder; Kogami's hand rested on her waist.

The two began to pace slowly across the dance floor, moving in sync with the music.

"Ah, I knew you'd follow me all the way here. Is my scent that alluring?" (Y/N) teasingly whispered.

Kogami's body tensed up slightly but he kept his calm; his grip on her waist tightened.

"I'm not letting you get away, you are the one who made that little 'promise' between us" Kogami said bitterly which provoked a giggle from (Y/N).

"And I will, my darling Shinya" After (Y/N) said that, Kogami felt her slip something into his pocket. He was about to put his hand in to check the content but was stopped by (Y/N).

"Don't get so impatient, have a look when you're home. Also, there's more. Follow me."

(Y/N) grabbed Kogami's hand and led him up the grand stairs, away from the party into a more secluded area. The tour wasn't too long and they ended up in an empty room.

"Ah, this is much more relaxing. I'm not a big fan of crowds" (Y/N) said as she sat down on the bed.

Kogami stood in front of her and remained cautious. After what happened with her last time, he wasn't going to let his guard down.

"Come on, Shinya. You don't need to be so tense" (Y/N) teased the tall man and laughed at his unwavering stare.

"Just get to the point. Why are we here."

"Well, I have something to show you."

(Y/N) walked over to one of the closets in the room and pulled out a briefcase. She walked back to Kogami and handed it to him.

"There are files in there about the substance that was used to preserve Sasayama's corpse. I think that will be some good information for you."

(Y/N) said while standing in front of Kogami. Kogami eagerly opened the case and started rummaging through the papers, desperate to find information.

"Plastination...." Kogami whispered to himself, feeling overwhelmed by all the new information he was receiving.

Without a warning, he pulled out what (Y/N) had put in his pocket earlier to find that it was a photo. The photo was taken by a surveillance camera. It was a blurry image of a white haired man.

"Is this..." Kogami began and (Y/N) finished his sentence.

"The one who murdered Sasayama? Most likely." (Y/N) said calmly but she underestimated the effect the image had on Kogami.

The said man was fuming, confused, agitated. The emotions were so complex it couldn't be described into words. Kogami's hands were visibly shaking as he clutched onto the photo with his dear life.

"What is his name..." Kogami muttered, his mind in a dark trance.

"That I don't know. He is a very mysterious man. All I could get a hold of was his aliases"

"What.is.his.name." This time Kogami deeply growled out those words which managed to surprise the woman.

"Like I said, I don't know" (Y/N) repeated again but this time it fell on dear ears.

"You're in it too, aren't you..." Kogami hissed.

"Excuse me?"

"You helped this guy kill Sasayama." This time Kogami looked up and straight into (Y/N). He started to walk towards her which made her walk backwards. Soon her back hit the wall and Kogami towered over her. His eyes were filled with rage, hatred and betrayal. This made the strong woman waver a bit. Even still, she managed to form words from her mouth.

"I didn't kill Sasayama" (Y/N) said as she looked up into Kogami's eyes. But something inside Kogami snapped and he instantly grabbed (Y/N)'s throat and pushed her up against the wall. The sudden force made (Y/N)'s eyes go wide and she instinctively grabbed at Kogami's hand.

"Then why wouldn't you tell me his name!!" Kogami yelled into (Y/N)'s face but the choking woman couldn't form any words.

The rage left Kogami's body as soon as it came when he noticed what he was doing. He quickly retracted his hand which made (Y/N) fall to the floor.

Kogami stepped back; his breathing heavy. (Y/N) let out a few coughs and breathed deeply as she looked up at Kogami.

"I don't know him. But that is what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to help you, Shinya..." (Y/N) weakly said, still trying to regulate her breathing.

Kogami was about to speak but was interrupted by the sound of a huge explosion.

The two quickly snapped their heads towards the source of the sound and rushed out the door only to see fire and smoke starting to engulf everything.

"We need to get out of here!" Kogami told (Y/N) before grabbing her hand and running towards the main hall. Just like them, everyone present in the mansion were screaming and running out to save their lives.

The two ran past the smoke and eventually reached the top of the stairs. The fire was spreading quickly and almost everything was burning.

Just when Kogami started to run down the stairs, he felt (Y/N)'s hand slip from his. Looking back, he saw that the woman had tripped and fell.

Kogami's eyes went wide and he ran up the stairs to where (Y/N) fell and quickly swept her up into his arms and ran down again.

He ran out of the burning building and found Ginoza and the others.

"Kogami!" Ginoza yelled out when he saw the man running towards him.

Kogami was out of breath but still managed to speak.

"How did this happen.."

"We don't know. There was a sudden explosion and fire. Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine." Kogami mumbled out as he gently put (Y/N) back down to her feet.

"Are you okay?" Kogami asked (Y/N).

"Yeah, but I think I twisted my ankle..."

"Don't worry, Miss (L/N). The firemen and the ambulance are on their way." Masaoka said and (Y/N) nodded in response.

Just like Masaoka said, after a few minutes the two units had arrived. Kogami lead (Y/N) into the ambulance.

"You are stupid you know that right, Shinya? I was gonna burn to death and you would've too for trying to save me back there" (Y/N) said, clutching the blanket given to her by one of the paramedics while sitting inside the ambulance.

Kogami didn't respond for a second; only stared off into space.

"Unlike you, I wouldn't be able to bear the thought that someone died because of me and my incompetence."

"Touché."

"Plus, I can't let you die just yet. You can't back out of your promise that easily, miss (L/N)" Kogami said teasingly, a smirk playing on his lips.

Kogami's words made (Y/N) laugh wholeheartedly.

"Indeed. Don't worry, I will make sure to see our promise till the end. For now, goodnight, Shinya" 

(Y/N) bid farewell to the raven haired man as the paramedics closed the ambulance door, ready for departure.

Kogami watched as the ambulance drove away, leaving a mixture of emotions within him.
