Chapter 8

It had been a few weeks since the incident at the mayor's house and to Kogami's surprise, things were quiet at the office since then. They conducted some research on the incident but nothing was suspicious.

Kogami couldn't complain though as his workload was low. If something suspicious was discovered then he would have been swimming in paperwork and several on field duties. But one thing about the peaceful weeks did bother him. It was (Y/N). He hadn't received any calls or messages from her. Neither was there any new murders. He felt somewhat worried.

Just as he thought that, Kogami's eyes went wide and he almost slapped himself across the face.

What was he thinking. Was he really feeling worried about some criminal that he was assigned to apprehend? On top of that he was waiting for a murder to happen just so he would know of her presence?

Kogami's stomach twisted in disgust. What happened become of him? He was suppose to be a respected police officer whose job was to protect the citizens of the country and punish the wrongdoers but he was certainly straying from that path. He understood that a new part of him had been born that was controlling him. A part that had affinity with the mastermind criminal. 

This thought made Kogami go cold. Kogami had been following his feelings ever since the deal with (Y/N) but the thought of his Psycho Pass deteriorating because of those feelings never came to mind. Kogami began to panic. He jolted up from his chair and excused himself before rushing to the toilet. 

Once inside and alone, Kogami quickly did a Crime  Coefficient check and the results were unpleasant.

Crime Coefficient: 86.3

Hue: Medium Blue

The results threw Kogami into a void of stress. His Crime Coefficient almost reached hundred when Sasayama died. He was thankful that Ginoza's nagging made him go to therapy and recover his hue but all he was doing then was pushing him back to that edge again. 

He stressfully ran his hand through his hair and walked out of the toilet and back to the division 1 office. He was met with a look of concern concealed by anger from Ginoza right when he stepped in.

"Kogami, I'm seeing you are very neglectful of your duties these days. You are hardly paying attention!" Ginoza scolded Kogami but the man hardly paid him any attention.

"Look, my shift is over, I gotta go." Kogami ignored Ginoza's further yells and just walked out of the office. He was tired and stressed out. He just needed a break from everything.

Kogami looked up when he felt his car stop in front of his house. He was too tired to drive so he had let the self driving car take him home. He got out of the car and went inside the building. The walk from his car, up the elevator and to his apartment door was a blur to Kogami as he was deeply engaged in his thoughts. The raining dark clouds above his head suddenly vanished and his heart started pumping when he saw a figure patiently waiting in front of his apartment door. 

He could recognize that figure from miles away. It was (Y/N).

(Y/N) seemed to had noticed Kogami's presence as she lifted her head and looked up at Kogami.

"Oh, you're back", Said (Y/N), the expression on her face almost unreadable. But Kogami labeled it as happy for the time being.

"How long were you waiting?", Kogami asked, his question confusing him instead. He should have been shocked and should have been asking what she was doing there instead he was concerned and embarrassed. 

"Don't worry, I just got here.", (Y/N) said with a small smile. Her structure and aura was so innocent, nobody would suspect that she was a cold blooded murderer. And for a moment, Kogami forgot about that too.

"What are you doing here?", Kogami finally asked the main question.

"I want to talk to you about something. Can we discuss it inside?" 

"Yes, of course." Kogami quickly unlocked his apartment door and escorted (Y/N) inside.

"You have a really nice house, Shinya.", (Y/N) said, looking around.

"Nothing compared to the mansions you own but thank you, I'm glad you find it pleasing", Kogami said as he took off his shoes and coat; (Y/N) following suit.

Once inside, Kogami told (Y/N) to sit on the couch while he went to the kitchen to prepare some tea. It didn't take him long and he was back next to (Y/N) in a few minutes.

"What did you wanna talk about?", Kogami asked.

"I wanted to thank you for that day. If you didn't save me back then, I wouldn't be here now. So, yeah. Thank you for saving my life", (Y/N) said shyly, fiddling with her thumbs as she looked down.

Kogami's cheeks became tinted with pink as he too felt shy by the sudden softness the woman was showing.

"Ah, it's no problem" Kogami said looking away.

The room became silent for a while, only the sound of breathing remained. Many thoughts ran through Kogami's mind, his body itching to put them in words and after a while he eventually did.

"Why do you do it?"

"Huh?" (Y/N) let out a sound of confusion looking towards Kogami.

"Why do kill people?"
