A/N Warning, lots of angst in this chapter. Flashes on Vii's and Ringo's pasts.
Vii POV:

The setting sun painted the sky a mural of cotton candy and a cool breeze hung in the air, bringing with it a feeling of panic to the horses of Firebend ranch. In the wild, horses rely on their sense of smell to keep safe from predators. They have a special organ in their muzzles called the Jacobson’s Organ which helps the brain pinpoint and process smells. On windy days, it’s harder for horses to pinpoint smells so they would be more at risk in the wild. The panic on windy days is still an instinct for domestic horses so riders need to be careful if they are going to ride in the wind. With that in mind, I was extra careful as I approached Ringo’s pen with a flake of alfalfa hay.

“Hey bud, ya hungry?” I asked as I opened the gate and began to walk towards the feed bin in the center of the large, outdoor stall. Ringo lifted his massive, brown head and looked in my direction. Fear. That seemed to be the only emotion held in his eyes. I’d scared him the last time we met even though I didn’t mean too…

Ringo kept his eyes on me as I drew closer and closer to him. When I was a few feet away from him he shied back a few steps. Poor guy. I set the hay down in his feed bin and stepped back. I waited, holding the gaze of the bay Thoroughbred in front of me. He pinned back his ears and lowered his head, pawing at the ground. He was being aggressive because of how scared he was. I needed him to know that I am not a threat- so I stood my ground. “Ringo it’s ok, go on and eat.”

Ringo POV ( A/N Horses are a lot smarter than we give them credit for and I really do think that they are able to comprehend and imagine things just like us humans.) “Go on and eat.” It’s Vii, she scared me but she’s not other master. She’s not  holding an ouchie strap. She sounds sincere. Can I trust her? Can I eat with her here? Is she gonna hurt me? The other humans leave after giving me food so why isn’t she? Is she gonna take my food? Is it safe? I’m gonna take one step. Just...One.

No one’s POV:

Ringo took a step forward, causing the ends on Vii’s mouth to curve upward slightly. Ringo didn’t notice, he was wondering what would happen. The last time he took a step towards his old master who was holding a bucket of grain he was yelled at and had a whip cracked at him. “WAIT YOU STUPID HORSE! AFTER AN EASY DAY OF WORK YOU SHOULD AT LEAST WAIT FOR YOUR FOOD!”

Ringo looked up at Vii. She wasn’t doing anything, just standing by the fence watching him. He paused for a bit, thinking and trying to decide if it was safe for him to get a little closer. Another step. Nothing happened to him. Ringo determined that it was ok to eat and eagerly trotted towards the alfalfa delicacy. Vii giggled at the gelding's antics. “Good boy Ringo, good boy.”

Ringo paused for a second to think. ‘Good boy? I haven’t heard those words in a while. What do they mean again? I’m not sure but I don’t think it’s bad.’

Todoroki POV:

After the festival I still couldn’t find Vii and she wasn’t answering her phone either.

(A/N Italics show texting. T=Todoroki).

T Vii, I’m sorry. What I said today wasn’t fair. I was just upset about other things and was taking my anger out on you and Midoriya. Can we please talk in person? I promise I won’t waste your time.
