Todoroki POV:
I sat on my bed waiting anxiously for Vii to contact me. I still need to ask my dad if she can stay here, she’s my best friend. I want to keep her safe. I’ve already failed at that, god knows what kind of pain she’s been through. Still I want to help her, I just wish she’d told me sooner.
Sighing heavily, I flopped back onto my pillows. I should try to sleep but I know I won’t be able to. I closed my eyes and tried to relax, then I heard my phone ding.
I nearly fell out of bed as I scrambled to reach my phone. I opened it and saw a message from Vii!
‘Hello, quick update, the social worker said that she’s going to contact your dad to see if I can stay with you. Just in case he says no though, she’s found a few suitable foster homes I could stay in until I turn 18.’
I was glad to hear this news and quickly responded. ‘That’s good but can I call you, I know that you’re ok but I’m still worried sick and I NEED to talk to you…’
‘...’
‘Ok, one sec’
Not a minute later, Vii’s call came through. I frantically pushed accept even though I knew she was alive but still, I was worried.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“Ok, I know I already asked but, are you ok?”
“Physically yes, mentally I don’t know. It was terrifying, h-he just started screaming and then he broke a chamber that held one of the heros. I could barely recognize them anyway…”
“Vii…” I didn’t know what to say, how am I supposed to respond to something like this. The heroes had only been missing since this morning and here they are, dead, experiments, evidence of a horrible crime.
“... do you want me to come down to the station?”
“Yeah but I don’t think it’s allowed right now.”
“Hn, well-”
“WHY ON EARTH WOULD I LET SHOTO’S SO CALLED ‘FRIEND’ STAY IN MY HOUSE!?!”
“Uh Vii, I got to go see what’s gotten my father so mad.”
“I think I have an idea and it might be my fault.”
“What do you mean?”
“When I told you that I was unsure about foster care, you offered to let me stay at your place. Your dad doesn’t know me and is going to be mad when he finds out that it was you who offered that I stay with you. I’m sorry, if I wasn’t so selfish, none of this would be happening, I’m sorry to have troubled you!”
“Vii, this isn’t your fault and you weren’t being selfish. I get why didn’t want to go into foster care, you’ve been hurt before and you’re scared to trust others again. Remember, I offered to let you stay because you’re my best friend and I want to help you. Besides, I’m used to my father always being angry.”
“What? Ok, now I’m concerned. What’s he been doing? He better not be hurting you! If he is I swear I’ll-”
“Vii calm down, I’ll explain it to you some other day. Right now, I’m more worried about you.”
“Ok but are you sure that you can deal with him?”
“Yeah, I mean I have for the past 15 years right?”
“Yeah…”
“SHOOOTTOOO!!!!”
“I got to go, my dad is calling me.”
“Ok, be careful.”
“I will,ok.”
“Ok, goodbye Todoroki.”
“Goodbye Vii.”
With that, I hung up and set my phone down on my dresser as I made my way to the kitchen. At the table sat an angry Endeavour who was listening to someone on the phone. He must have noticed me standing in the doorway because he barked a harsh, “One second,” to whoever was on the other line before turning his attention to me. “ You, why on earth would you invite some inferior little brat into MY house?”
I have to play my cards right. He values power so I have to find a way to explain to him how strong Vii is without encouraging him to use her as a tool for his own delusions. Then again, maybe inviting her to stay wasn’t the best idea. Our dads are so similar but mine isn’t insane. No turning back now…
“Well father-” I tried not to sound too annoyed when speaking to him but it was a bit hard when he cut me off.
“Shoto who is this ‘friend of yours and why did you invite them to live with us?’’ His voice was low and held a razor sharp edge of anger and accusation.
I cleared my throat a bit before speaking. This was it. “Her name is Vii, Aikio, she also got into UA through recommendation. I invited her to live with us because she’s my best friend and because she’s been hurt and needs saving. That’s your job right? You’re a hero, you help those in need. You’ve helped so many others so please, just help her too…” I’ve never spoken to my dad like this before. This was the first time that I’d really ever shown him any sort of emotion or respect since before I got my quirk.
I looked at my father. I think my soft tone maghy have surprised him as well.
“Shoto…”
