{Prologue}

Ring!

That was the sound of my very unappreciated alarm clock.

Hoping that my mother was gone I snuck into the bathroom and took a short cold shower.

Quickly getting out and drying off, I hastily run out of the house and towards my car.

Climbing in, I headed to my dreadful school day.

Slamming my door and sighing, I grab my bag and pushed my way through the crowds.

Thank god it's the last day. I can't wait to get out of here.

Yes, I am 18 and graduating today. The whole throw your hats up in the air and everything.

Pushing my way to my locker I saw a football player wink at me. Flinching back in disgust, I gave them my prized middle finger. Which only caused more wolf whistles.

I finally reached my locker and did the combonation so I could throw my bag in.

"All seniors report to tbe library please." I hear through the loud speaker.

Grabbing my phone and shoving it in my pocket, I make my way towards the library.

Gabby smiles at me as I walk in.

Gabby is my 'friend'. We only hang out at lunch and classes. But we never have each other over and never bother to talk when we don't have to. It was just a thing we had going, but it worked out pretty well. No friend drama for me.

I politely smiled back.

Taking a seat in one of the library chairs I listen to what everyone had to say. More like slept.

"Cadence, what do you think?" I snap my eyes open and see a older librarian looking causiously at me.

I never really talk to anyone. Being loud and obnoxious was the most annoying and stupid thing in the world. I just didn't understand how people can do that.

So I only answered questions if everybody in the whole class was stupid enough not to know it.

I sighed for the millionth time today and look up at her. "What?"

"I was just asking people's opinion if they wanted the reception right now. Everyone agreed. Exept you."

"Sure."

I don't have anyone that is coming anyway.

Suddenly someone stomped into the library, slamming the doors on there way in.

Loud and obnoxious.

"Please, Axel. We all know you are excited, but I think you can control yourself enough to have some respect." The librarian says.

Ah, Axel Bates. How could I forget? The bad boy. Drugs, rich, popular, and a criminal. All the ingredients to make one, smoking hot, rebel.

Oh how I wish I could be a rebel.

Along with his two best friends.

Cameron Strutan and Tyler Umar.

And you couldn't help but look at them for longer than a minute when they walked into a room.

What? They were hot!

But also man whores and douchebags. So erase everything you ever thought was hot about them.

'Cause that cancels out all.

Anyway.

You could practically see the steam pouring out of Axel's ears. Yeah, he had a little temper. Not to mention the fact that he was already angry coming in.

It was hard not to laugh, honestly.

Everyone was so afraid of him. Just because he did drugs and was rich, did NOT give him the right to push people around.

So if he ever thinks about trying that on me... think again buddy. I'm sick and tired of people pushing me around.

What was he so angry about anyway?

"What is with the janitors in this place? No toliet paper, Again!" He boomed.

Silence.

That was it.

I couldn't hold it in anymore.

I laughed. Out loud.

I LOL-ed.

That was probably the loudest and most obnoxious thing I had ever done in my entire career of being at this high school.

And apperantly it wasn't the smartest thing I had done either.

Axel's face turned to me. I saw something flash in his eyes. He quickly snapped out of it and fumed at me.

"What did you say?" He asked, walking up to me dangerously.

Flinching, I scooted as far back as I could.

Was he going to hurt me?

"I didn't actually say anything." I stated more confidently than I should have.

"I want her to have detention." Axel said turning around to face the old lady. She looked causiously at me.

That did it.

"Are you fucking kidding me? Are all of you that scared of him? You're just going to let him walk all over you? Jesus. You have the right to open your mouths and tell him to shut the fuck up. For god's sake, it's the last day here. Better make it worth it. Oh wait, you can't, because this asshole is preventing everyone from that by giving them detention!" I practically yell.

The old lady looks at me with her mouth open. "Both of you. Office. And detention."

I quickly shut my mouth and regret every single word that came out of it.

Okay, maybe not. He definitely deserved that. Screw him. This is high school, not a prison. The consequences couldn't be that bad.

Right?

I walked past Axel shoving my shoulder into his in the process.

Oh, I liked this.

***

"And why exactly did you yell at Axel?" Mrs. Hany asked, our school principal.

She had short brown hair with bangs and wrinkles all over her face. She kept shoving her glasses back on her face that kept slipping down her nose.

I sighed. Again.

"Look. I'm sorry. It just came out of me. I just need to know if you are giving me detention."

Mrs. Hany looked at me quizzically.

She finally nodded her head. "Yes. I will be giving you detention. I know you are a very good young lady. Hardly even open your mouth at all." She paused to smile at me. "So I'll let you off with a 2 hour detention. How does that sound?"

I gulped.

This can't be happening.

"I- is there any other time I could do this?" I cleared my throat. "Could I do one day today and one tommorrow?"

Mrs. Hany smiled sadly. "It's the last day honey."

My hands started to get clammy.

Dammit! What was I thinking? Getting myself into trouble on the last day. Way to fucking go, Cadence.

I smiled at her before getting up. I grabbed the door handle and was about to pull the door open, but she stopped me.

"Have a nice night, Cadence."

I blinked back tears. I quickly turned around and waved before high tailing it out of there.

Well, time to go graduate I guess...
