Chapter Two
The Doctor

*---*---*---*---*---*

Emma woke up the next morning to her alarm going off, she reached her hand out and slammed it off. She sat up and everything from yesterday came rushing back to her. The mannequins, the stranger, the explosion, and her aunt Jackie's nagging compensation rants.

"No point in getting up, sweetheart," she heard Jackie's voice call out through the small apartment, "you've got no job to go to."

Emma flopped back down, her head hitting the pillow as her hand dragged through her messy brown hair.

She was right, there wasn't any point. But Emma couldn't just go back to sleep, she was too awake and wired now. She slipped out of bed and took a quick shower before getting dressed in a loose grey top and a pair of blue jeans.

She walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the small living room table. Rose appeared a second later and handed her a cup of coffee.

"Thought I'd stay home today," she said and sat down opposite Emma, "see how you were doing."

"I'm fine, Rose," Emma reassured, but smiled nonetheless, "thank you."

"There's Finches," Jackie announced as she walked into the room and Rose rolled her eyes, "you could try them they've always got jobs. Besides, it might help... you know," she waved a hand her eyes saying it all.

"Great the butchers, why not just let her go back to hunting?" Rose remarked and Jackie quickly shushed her.

"It might do you some good, love. Get your frustrations out without any danger lurking about," Jackie suggested and Emma sighed.

"I'll think about it, okay?" she asked and thankfully with a small nudge from Rose, Jackie dropped the job hunting subject.

"Maybe it was a good thing too," Jackie stood up, "that shop was bound to give you airs and graces if you carried on there much longer. And I'm not joking about compensation you've had general shock and trauma."

Emma turned in her chair so her eyes could follow Jackie as she walked away, "Compared to everything I've been through a little explosion is nothing," she muttered.

"I heard that," Jackie called out and Rose shot Emma a sympathetic look. "Also Arianna got 200 quid off the council just because the man behind the counter told her she looked Greek." Emma shot her a confused look as well as Rose, "I know she is Greek, but that's not the point."

A pattering sound fluttered through the apartment and Rose jumped up, "Mum, you are such a liar!" she accused and walked over to the front door, "I told you to nail that cap back down we're going to get strays."

"I did it weeks back," Jackie shouted from her bedroom down the hall.

"Yeah, you thought about it."

Emma smiled, she never got tired of the mother and daughter bickering it kind of reminded her of home and that was maybe the only reason she still stayed with the Tylers because they were home and a family, her family.

Rose kneeled in front of the door and picked up a rusty nail that laid on the floor before jumping when the plastic flap to the pet door pushed open slightly. She tapped it open and then pushed it all the way up before coming face to face with a man doing the same on the other end. Rose jumped up and gasped.

"Rose, are you okay?" Emma asked as she appeared behind her.

"Fine, there's, uh..." she didn't seem to know which words to use before she opened the door and the man that saved Emma last night stood on the other side.
