Chapter Thirteen
UNIT And SHIELD*---*---*---*---*---*
The Doctor, Emma, and Rose maneuvered their way down the hallway and through the crowd of officials and politicians.
"This is way too many unneeded people," Emma commented as she glanced around.
"Not necessarily," the Doctor shook his head. "Most of them should be apart of UNIT."
Rose took Emma's arm and leaned in to whisper, "Do you think the Avengers or SHIELD are going to be here for this?"
Emma frowned, she hadn't really thought about that. "Maybe. I mean, probably not the Avengers it's not exactly their territory. They're more the 'saving the end of the world and fighting wars' team, than the 'talking and negotiating plans of peace and that kind of thing' team. So, SHIELD is a strong maybe."
"Well, then I think that answers your question, Rose," the Doctor stated pointing to the group in front of them and Emma froze, then slowly she started turning around, trying her best not to get noticed.
"Emma?"
"Damn it!"
The Doctor grinned in amusement as he watched Emma turn back around and plaster a smile on her face.
"Which ones are these now?" the Doctor asked, clapping his hands as two of the agents walked toward them.
"The pirate's Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD," Emma whispered her lips barely moving as she spoke, "and the other one is-"
"Emma," he grabbed her in a hug.
"Uncle Phil!" Emma exclaimed in nervous happiness. She'd been gone a year. God! He must have had the entire American Government on high alert!
"Ah!" the Doctor smiled sarcastically, "more domestics. Fantastic."
Fury gave him a curious look as Phil pulled away from Emma and searched her face in disbelief. "You're alive? You're here? What happened? Emma, you disappeared for a year."
"I'm fine," she softly smiled at him. "I'm not dead. I'm fine."
"Of course she is," the Doctor said, "I've been taking good care of her," he sent her a wink and Rose nudged him in the side.
"Not helping," Emma muttered, but she couldn't help but smile as well.
"And who are you?" Phil questioned.
"I'm the Doctor," he replied.
"Here's your ID card," an official-looking man told the Doctor before gesturing to Emma and Rose. "I'm sorry, your companions don't have clearance."
"I don't go any without her," the Doctor stated in a non-negotiable tone as he looked at Emma.
"And I don't go anywhere without her," Emma said pointing at Rose.
"You're the code nine, not them."
"She's staying with me," the Doctor said and turned to leave his hand guiding Emma before the man jumped in front of them blocking their path.
"Look, Doctor? It is the Doctor, isn't it? I don't even have clearance to go in there."
He opened his mouth to argue but Fury stepped forward and held a badge out to the man. "Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD. This here is Emma Winchester, she has as much clearance as I do."
"Of course," the man nodded apologetically and Emma looked at Fury in surprise while the Doctor just grinned. "But unfortunately, your other companion has to still stay here."
