Chapter Seven
The Unquiet Dead

*---*---*---*---*---*

Emma woke up to a loud banging sound, she sat up straight in bed and glanced around. She was in the TARDIS, in her own room. She sighed in relief at the comfort of it, thinking she had just had a nightmare, but then the banging started up again followed by a shaking and vibrating feeling.

Emma threw her blankets off as she stumbled out of bed, slipping on her bunny slippers and running down the hall into the control room in nothing but her blue smurf top and pink sheep shorts.

"What the hell is going on?!" she demanded over the noise and that's when she saw the Doctor running around the console table like a madman.

He glanced back at her with a wild grin, "Good morning."

"What's so good about it?" Emma questioned in irritation as she folded her arms over her chest and Rose ran into the room.

"What's going on?" Rose yelled and the Doctor tinkered with another button before looking back at them.

"Are you two ready for another adventure?" he questioned giddily and run up to them practically jumping on the spot.

"What?" Rose asked in disbelief.

"We've only had like three hours of sleep," Emma complained.

"I know," the Doctor grinned, "far too much, no one needs that much. We should have already been in a new place by now."

Emma opened her mouth to retort but the TARDIS started shaking again and he quickly ran over to the controls, tapping and flipping switches as he went.

"Emma, come here and hold this switch down," the Doctor pointed out before glancing behind him, "Rose, you take that one there. Hurry up, you two, come on!"

Emma groaned, silently bidding her sleep goodbye, as she ran up to the console and Rose did the same opposite her both of them grabbing hold of their designated switches and pulling them down.

"Hold that one down!" the Doctor instructed.

"I'm holding it down!" Emma protested.

"Well, hold them both down!"

Emma and Rose both stretched for the button but neither of them could reach it until Emma swapped places with Rose and propped her leg up the heel of her foot hitting the last button down as the Doctor spun the time wheel backward.

"It's not gonna work!" the girls argued as the TARDIS carried on shaking and vibrating.

"Oi!" the Doctor protested, "I promised you two a time machine and that's what you're getting! Now, we've seen the future. Let's look at the past. 1860. How does 1860 sound?" he asked and leaned to the side to look at them.

"What happened in 1860?" Emma questioned.

"I don't know," he admitted, "let's find out." He rounded the console and pressed another button before pulling down the main switch, "alright! Hold on! Here we go!"

The whirring sound took over again and when it stopped Rose stumbled slightly before she fell down and onto her back. Emma tripped over her spread-out limbs and fell to the ground with a huff, and the Doctor landed just beside her. All three of them laughing and grinning like mad.

"Blimey!" Rose giggled.

"Son of a bitch!" Emma laughed.

"You're telling me! Are you two alright?" the Doctor asked as he climbed back to his feet and pulled Emma up with him while she did the same with Rose.
