Chapter Four
The End Of The World*---*---*---*---*---*
The second the TARDIS doors closed, the Doctor was at the control panel.
"Right, Emma Winchester. Rose Tyler. You tell me where do you want to go, backwards or forwards in time? It's your choice. What's it going to be?"
Emma and Rose shared a look before saying at the same time.
"Backwards."
"Forwards."
The Doctor raised an eyebrow at their miscommunication and Emma shrugged, "Forwards first then the next time backwards."
Rose grinned and the Doctor nodded. He noted how Emma always seemed to put everyone else before her he liked how selfless she was, but he also hated it.
He set a silver ball down on the controls before turning a knob and then flipping a switch, "How far?" he asked and Rose contemplated it for a second before saying.
"One hundred years."
The whirring sound was back and when it stopped the Doctor switched the control panel off, he turned to the two and smiled, "There you go, step outside those doors. It's the 22nd century," he pointed and Rose looked at him in disbelief.
"You're kidding!"
"Ah, it's a bit boring," he agreed, "do you want to go further?" he asked and looked at Emma, who nodded teasingly.
"Fine by me," she glanced to the side, "Rose?"
"No problem here."
The Doctor liked the company he had chosen this time. While Emma, he really wanted to accompany him because it was just a feeling he had like she was needed. Like he needed her. Rose was just a tag-along, though she didn't seem too bad and also a little fun, he'd have to get to know her better.
The Doctor spun the time wheel on the control panel and off they went again, spinning and speeding through time and space.
"Ten thousand years in the future. Step outside it's the year 12005, the New Roman Empire," the Doctor stated matter of factly.
"You think you're so impressive," Emma smiled and rolled her eyes.
"Oi!" he protested, "I am so impressive."
"You wish," Rose remarked.
"Right then," the Doctor said accepting the challenge, "you two asked for it. I know exactly where to go," he started spinning the time wheel rapidly as Emma and Rose grinned at each other. "Hold on!" he warned and the two did as they were told. The TARDIS started to shake again, the whirring sound louder than before as everything around them vibrated and buzzed.
Then everything stopped and the Doctor just stood there smiling madly at them.
"Where are we?" Emma questioned, but all he did was point to the door, silently telling them to go and look for themselves.
"What's out there?" Rose grinned excitedly and again the Doctor refused to say anything.
Emma looked back at him before walking out of the door and finding a wooden polished room on the other side. The entire thing was huge. But she couldn't see anything special about it until the Doctor and Rose followed out after her. He pressed his sonic screwdriver to a wall panel nearby and suddenly the front wall started folding in like a large curtain blind.
Emma cautiously walked up to it while Rose surveyed the rest of the room trying to find a way out and further explore wherever they had landed up.
"You lot," the Doctor said as he appeared by her side, "spend all your time thinking about dying. Like you're going to get killed by eggs or beef or global warming or asteroids. But you never take time to imagine the impossible - maybe you survive."
