TW~ Panic Attack
By now Thomas's leg was well on its way to recovery. His bandages were gone and the pup only limped slightly as he walked making both adults very happy to see. He's let his playful side show so much since he's started to move around more. Roman could barely keep up with him half the time but that just made it all the better.
Virgil was out with Janus walking the woods setting up wards and spells to keep the woods and castle safe. Roman didn't mind. Virgil had to care for every wolf in the woods as he was the alpha. Their protection was up to him but Roman... Roman had to care for Thomas and that made him very happy.
Right now the prince was in his bed, still basically his nest, as he bottle-fed the small pup. Thomas had a problem with eating too much food. He could eat meat. He was just too small to be able to eat enough of it. So Roman bottle-fed him on top of it so he still got the nourishment that he needed to stay healthy. Thomas was there in his lap suckling on the bottle as he needed and pawed against the air. Roman's eyes shined fondly as he cooed at the baby wolf.
He honestly couldn't get enough of his time with him. Roman didn't know what their future would hold but... He knew there was no giving up Thomas now. He was completely wrapped around those little paws.
"There you go, sunflower." Roman hummed as Thomas growled into the bottle. Roman couldn't help but laugh as the baby clawed gently through the blankets just happily eating away. "Such a good boy. You're gonna grow up to be so big and strong." Roman purred so softly as he just melted into the moment. He was gone. He knew he was gone. He had gotten far to attached the pup there was no saving him.
"Oh?" Thomas yipped softly as he pushed away from the now-empty bottle. "Is that it? Are you finished now?" Roman smiled as he gently patted the pups back not that he really needed to do anything as Thomas let out a forced huff, or a very puppy-like burp if you will. Roman melted completely as Thomas whined softly burrowing himself into the man's shirt. "You're just too precious, Lemon drop." Roman lulled softly as he gently trailed his fingers through Thomas's fur. "God, you're just too special, Dear." Roman smiled fondly as he watched the sweet pup nuzzle into him until he began to suckle on his shirt.
"I wonder why you do that with me?" Roman paused for a second as he gently scratched at the pup's scruff, eliciting a gentle growl. "A baby does that to its mother for food and comfort but... You've done that with me since you first got here." Roman's eyes narrowed in awe as the pup moved as close as it could get making Roman purr. "That's it..." Roman laughed at himself as he leaned back against the headboard. "I'm not giving you up. Not ever... You're staying here with us. I don't even care anymore. Virgil can fight me about you being a wolf and needing to be in the woods all he wants... you're staying here."
"I'm your dad now." Roman gasped as his wolf tinged in him. He felt his magic lash out sharply creating this flash of bright white as his eyes started to glow. He couldn't help it. He couldn't control himself. He growled as he held Thomas closer his wolf taking over completely as the bright light surrounded them both. He held Thomas up to meet his eyes as the puppy howled so softly. "Do you hear that Thomas?" Roman growled as his eyes flashed brighter. His magic wrapped around the puppy making his own eyes glow as Roman smiled unable to control himself at all. This urge drowned him completely shutting his mind off as he just focused on this one thought. This one deep desire... "I'm your father now." Roman felt the energy burn in him as Thomas tilted his head in the cutest little way. "You're my son." All the energy seemed to slam into the pup as Roman pulled him in as if to guard him against the world. Everything tilted as Roman's mind started to reset almost not comprehending that anything had even happened.
"Shit." Roman groaned as he shook his head, his magic drained in him so suddenly. "What just..." His eyes shot open as everything hit him hard. He quickly maneuvered the puppy until he was nestled securely in the crook of his arm as tears filled Roman's eyes. The overwhelming panic and horror that filled the prince shot through his blood... it was horrible. "T-Thomas?" God, it was like Virgil all over again. "Thomas." Roman tried. Despite the shake in his voice, Roman called out to him, watching those soft brown eyes daze and droop. "Mi Hijo?" Roman's voice cracked as he watched the poor pup's eyes close completely.
"No. Thomas, please... wake up. Come on, Starbeam. You have to wake up." It really was Virgil all over again. Roman broke down completely as he continued to try to coax the wolf pup awake but nothing would work. His breathing was erratic and suffocating as if cotton filled his mouth. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't go through this again. His heart shattered in his chest as the guilt rip through him sending the room spinning out around him. "Why do I always hurt those I love? I can't... Thomas... Son... Mi pequeño ligero... please wake up? W-Wake up for Daddy?" Roman broke down as he cradled the sleeping pup close to his chest wanting nothing more than to undo whatever it was he just did. "I need to know your ok. Damn it..."
"Virgil?" Roman reached out with his magic, his eyes glowing gold as he latched onto the mate bond he had. He whispered so heartbrokenly as he cried with such desperation, it fed through the link. "Virgil... Love. I need you. I... I can't breathe. I... I need you. Please? Please, come home."
"So Virgil, these wards won't keep the hunters out of the woods but it will protect the wolves. even if they shot at them, they won't get hit." Virgil smiled as he followed closely behind Janus who had been setting up wards with him everywhere.
"That's more than enough Janus. I just don't want anything else to happen." Janus nodded with a sad look as Virgil stared at the ground beneath him. "It's bad enough those poor wolves..."
"The fact that anyone would hurt let alone kill babies of any species surprises me. I'm sorry that ever happened. Just..." Janus stopped for a second, taking Virgil's hand as the poor wolf tensed. "It's not your fault. There was nothing you could do to save them. Just doing what you can to prevent more death is more than enough, Virgil. I'm proud of you." Virgil's eyes lit up as Janus smiled. "You weren't born into this, Virgil. Neither was Roman but the two of you took this life and made it your own. I never thought I'd see the day where you would come out of your shell but... You did... and now you've gone so far. You aren't that little boy anymore. You've grown up into quite the man... quite the prince and witch. Seriously, Virgil... I'm proud."
"Thank you." Virgil smiled softly as Janus just nodded and started off again.
"I just have a few more wards to place and then I can teach you the one for the castle if you want." Virgil nodded, happily following along until...
'Virgil...' Virgil's eyes started glowing brightly as this growl tore through his lips. Janus stopped cold as he spun around to see the terror in Virgil's eyes. Something was wrong. 'Virgil... Love.'
"Roman?" Janus's eyes widen as he led Virgil over to this tree to help steady him. "Janus... Something... something wrongs." Virgil grimaced at the pure panic burning through him, making it impossible to breathe... but he knew... He knew this wasn't HIS panic. He wasn't panicking.
'I need you. I... I can't breathe.' Roman was panicking. 'I... I need you. Please? Please, come home.'
"Janus, something's wrong with Roman." Janus gripped Virgil's arms tightly to help ground him as he let his own magic swirl around them both soothingly. "J-Jan?"
"What's going on? Maybe I can help, but you need to explain it first."
"I don't know. I-I just..." Virgil whined as his hand went to his hair. "I hear him. In my head."
"He's mind linking you? I wasn't aware either of you knew how to."
"WE DON'T!" Janus's face fell realizing just what Virgil meant. "If he's doing this it's instinct... which means something bad happened. Janus, he's panicking. Something is wrong. I... I have to go."
"Virgil."
"Janus, he's my mate. I have to." Janus nodded as he let Virgil go, knowing if it was Patton no one would have been able to stop him.
"I haven't done the castle yet Virgil."
"Forget about the castle. Just finish the wards here and go home." Janus frowned as Virgil already started to inch his way back. "If we need you we'll call. I'm sorry. I just..."
"Go on." Janus smiled as he nodded. "I'll finish up. You go help your prince."
