Mal was being tightened into a yellow and blue dress; that Evie had designed and sewn for the Cotillion. Raven thought that the dress was beautiful, but the Auradon colors were an odd combination on Mal. Raven knew Evie was truly talented and she understood the design perfectly, but this dress just wasn't Mal, and Raven could tell that Mal was thinking the same thing.
Evie had really begun to thrive in Auradon; she had a small design enterprise, that was helping her to plan for her future. She hoped to spend said future with her boyfriend, Doug. Mal was playing her role as a dutiful girlfriend to the King, well. But something was off, she didn't seem like herself lately.
"Evie your plants are turning brown." Scolded Raven.
"I know, I don't do so well with plants, I guess. Doug gave them to me, so I was hoping they'd flower, but they're looking a little sad." Replied Evie.
With that, Raven waved her hand over the droopy plants, and a pale yellow light erupted around them. The leaves turned to lush and green again, and the most beautiful blue flowers appeared and began to bloom.
"Wow!" Exclaimed Evie, impressed, "I always forget that you have magic. I keep forgetting that you're a pixie."
"How could you with those ears?" Mal teased.
"Still haven't run out of ear jokes, huh?" Asked Raven, unamused.
She had always been a little insecure about her pointed ears.
"Never." Quipped Mal, in jest.
"By the way? How are you doing with the floating?" Asked Evie.
Raven was becoming slightly embarrassed.
"Well, ever since Carlos kissed me on the bleachers during Tourney practice, and I started to float up in front of the entire cheerleading squad, I figured that I had to learn how to control it." Replied Raven.
"Oh, that's...uncomfortable." Commented Mal, not referring to the dress.
"I couldn't live it down for weeks, once Audrey and Chad decided to run with it." Groaned Raven, resentfully.
"So, can you control it, now?" Evie pressed.
"For the most part, yes. But, when we really start to..." Raven trailed off.
"Yeah! Okay! We got it," Interrupted Mal, not wanting to hear more about Raven and Carlos' physical activities.
"Anyway..." Raven continued, changing the subject, "Mal, how are you and Ben doing with everything?"
"Well, we're not as obsessed with each other as you and Carlos," Mal started, as Raven stuck her tongue out at her, "But sometimes, I wish that we were."
"Are you guys not getting along?" Asked Evie.
"No, no we are, it's just it takes so much energy to prepare for everything that goes with Ben's world. Parties, interviews, primping, planning, organizing; it gets to be a lot." Explained Mal, looking exhausted.
"Mal, you need to give yourself a break. I think you're starting to go down." Raven warned, gently.
"Oh, just physically and emotionally." Mal joked.
"I'm serious, girl. When was the last time you did anything fun, or crazy?" Challenged Raven.
"Ben doesn't even really know that girl. I'm not the evil daughter of a sorceress anymore. I'm Ben's future Lady. I just want to get it right." Mal replied, looking overwhelmed.
"You, are a fierce force to be reckoned with. You're a leader, not a girl who would follow behind her boyfriend, even if he is the King. I'm sure Ben knows that. I mean, he fell in love with you before you even chose the side of good." Raven encouraged.
"He fell in love with the good side anyway." Mal muttered, cynically.
Mal then scrambled to her bed and grabbed a book. She began an incantation that would allow her to retain everything that she reads.
"What is that for?" Raven asked, unapprovingly.
"Mal, you're using magic to remember all of your princess expectations and duties? Ben wouldn't like it. That book belongs in the museum, with my magic mirror." Scolded Evie.
"I need to use it. I was a disaster before I started using my spell book to get everything right. Besides, Raven still gets to use magic!" Mal tried to redirect.
"The floating isn't exactly a choice. I mean, I made the plant better, but that was just a trick. I don't use it for anything real-life oriented." Countered Raven, "Besides, your magic is so much stronger than mine."
"Give me the book, no, put the pout away. You know I'm right." Said Evie, to Mal.
"Evie, don't you ever miss the Isle?" Asked Mal.
"Oh, you're funny!" Chuckled Evie, sarcastically. "We're Auradon girls now, we can be whatever we want to be!"
"Raven, back me up here." Entreated Mal.
"I...I can't. I'm not an Isle girl. I've never actually been to the Isle. I spent my life in Neverland and went straight to Auradon." Raven replied.
There was an awkward silence before Evie broke it.
"Okay, Raven, it's your turn." She announced, in a sing-song voice.
"Evie... I don't even know if I'm going to Cotillion. Carlos hasn't asked. I don't know if he even wants to go... or maybe he just doesn't want to go with me." She murmured, looking sad and confused.
"Raven, Carlos would spend the night in the Underworld, if you asked him to. Don't be ridiculous. He's probably just not used to being in a relationship yet, and he doesn't know what to do." Suggested Evie, supportively.
Raven gave Evie a weak smile, but still felt insecure about Cotillion.
"If he doesn't ask you, screw him! You'll go with all of us." Added Mal.
"So... can we get you measured?" Evie pressed, expectantly.
"Okay, but no yellow, alright?" Pleaded Raven.
