A few weeks later. . .
Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and ran my hands over the white, delicate material I was wearing, standing behind the door that would open any minute to reveal the very large outdoor area that was decorated very nicely by my people.
It's my wedding day. I was being truthful when I told Elias that I wanted to marry him as soon as possible but I didn't think I'd be so nervous.
Amaya planned this whole wedding. She was in charge of everything from my dress all the way down to the napkins. Everyone was here and by everyone I mean everyone. All of my people and also Xavier, Alec, Rowan, their daughters, and a few friends we met during our mission.
All eyes will be on me. Everyone will witness Elias and I devoting our lives to each other and that's so nerve-wracking. I'm not shy by any means but I feel like I need to be perfect for him.
I continued to even my breathing when I felt a presence behind me.
I turned around coming face to face with Elias. My eyes widened, "What are you doing here?!" I whisper yelled since there were hundreds of enhanced ears behind the door. Elias didn't even react to my question. He looked me up and down appreciatively and smiled brightly.
"You're gorgeous." He said to me casually, as if he shouldn't be at the alter already, as if everyone won't be wondering where he is, as if Amaya won't actually kill him for not being where he is supposed to be.
"Elias," I said shakily. He noticed my nerves and got worried which is what neither of us needs right now.
"Are you alright? What's wrong?" He asked, his eyes holding concern.
I shook my head, "Nothing is wrong, I'm just getting antsy," I tell him, but he didn't believe me. Before he could ask if I'm having doubts, I projected my love into him which put all his worries aside.
"Antsy?" He smirked.
I rolled my eyes, "Nervous, there I said it. I'm nervous." I whisper-shouted at him, looking down.
He pulled my head back up and kissed me passionately, making me forget about everything but him.
When he pulled away, he traced my lips with his thumb placing his forehead on mine. "You have nothing to be nervous about. We are about to make a life-long commitment to one another in front of the people we love, what's so nerve-wracking about that?" He asked softly, looking into my eyes that were no doubt swirling in different colors.
"I just don't want to mess up. What if I trip or forget my vows? I want to do this perfectly, for you." I tell him and he only grinned, pulling me close to him.
"Don't think you have to try so hard. I love you no matter what, Athena. I'm ready to spend the rest of my life with you." He told me, caressing my face.
Letting my nerves ease, I lean in to kiss him again when Amaya's voice sounded, "I knew you'd be here. This is not what we rehearsed and you know you aren't supposed to see her right now. You'll have plenty of time afterward." She snapped, grabbing Elias's arm, muttering along the way in spanish, "Hombres estupidos. Trabajo duro y. . ." Her voice trailed off and within seconds music started to play and I released a breath.
Before I knew it, the doors opened up revealing everyone who stood up and a very happy-looking Elias who was standing at the alter. I slowly made my way to him as the ceremony commenced.
We told each other our vows and we both said "I do," when the time came and right before we were told to kiss, Elias looked at me the way he does whenever my eyes turn to the shade of love that he admires so much, with affection and adoration and I didn't even let the marriage efficient finish his line before I all but pounced on him, planting my lips on his causing an eruption of applause and cheers.
This was the beginning of the rest of our life together and I can't wait to see what our future holds.
