The Future

Erin cried as Amaya laid in a pool of her own blood, struggling for every breath. Minutes ago, the young girl was sleeping peacefully, then there was a bang and she woke up the tech lab with debris all around her. The visitors came and went, taking what they wanted not caring who they hurt in the process.

The facility was meant to be an indestructible fortress and for many years, it was. What kind of weapon was strong enough to penetrate the walls of her home, Erin thought.

Carter was at Amaya's side in an instant, taking her hand in his kissing her knuckles softly with tears rolling down his cheeks. "She's gonna make it, she has to." He muttered. Carter's words were meant for himself, to give him some kind of hope for what seems impossible.

Erin looked at the pole sticking out of her side and the small cuts that were deep and bleeding over various parts of her skin. She didn't want to accept the truth.

"Erin," Amaya croaked out. The girl was immediately at Amaya's side caressing the face of the woman she called auntie her whole life.

"Yes?"

Amaya's breath was small, but she managed to get the words out, "The cases, take the cases before they come back for them."

Erin was confused but looked around the lab until her eyes fell upon three large black cases. She didn't know the contents of what's inside, but she knew if Amaya was telling her to take them away from here, they were important.

Erin looked back at Amaya's failing body, her tears returning, "I don't want to leave you."

"Hey," Amaya struggled to form a smile without it looking painful but failed. "I'll try to stay alive little one. You and the others need to leave though, do you hear me? Get the others and go, now."

Amaya gave Erin a firm look. A secretive look between aunt and niece that only she'll understand.

It's time, Amaya told her with her eyes. Erin knew her mother was okay, she felt it. She had to leave before Athena found her though because she is about to do something her mother would never allow.

She has trained for this her entire life. Stories of the future and what might come of it, it's all happening too soon she felt. Without hesitation Erin stood up and rushed over to the cases, lifting them up.

Her friends across the globe must know about what's happening by now and are on their way to the location very few know about, not even their parents. Amaya knows, of course, she helped prep the area. That's where they will all meet, that's where they will plan before their mission starts.

This is really it.

"Go," Amaya told her.

Erin wasted no time, she obeyed Amaya and got the others. They sprinted up to the launch pad before it was too late. The plane has coordinates to where they need to go locked in already, it was built that way, to always be prepared for this day.

Her fingers hesitated over the button that will send them away. She was leaving behind so many people, not everyone will live, she knows. She can't worry about that now, because if they don't leave, they won't get a chance to save so many others that have a chance at life.

"Everyone hold tight."

Then, they took off not knowing what to expect but knowing the time to fight was near.
