"Werewolves?"
I slowly nodded, receiving all the emotions of the people who were currently in the dining hall with me. There was a lot of confusion and a lot of fear.
All the adults were present while the teens and children were left in the recreation center so we can discuss how this was going to work without being interrupted with the exception of Erin of course.
"Who would stay?" Erin asked and I shrugged, looking over at her with tired eyes. She knows she can't come, there's no one I'd trust more to look over this place. "You want me to stay?"
"You know why Erin." I sighed.
"But that's not fair!"
"This is exactly why this meeting was supposed to strictly be for adults," Mavon said in an irritated voice.
"You're only like two years older than me, not even. I'll be seventeen in a couple of months." Erin snapped.
A few people chuckled while others rolled their eyes. I knew some of them didn't exactly enjoy the fact that Erin knows more than them, but they don't know her as I do. She is somebody I know I can trust and I give credit to my ability for that.
I know I can trust all the aeteri that live here, but I met Erin first and she's just who I trust the most with certain responsibilities.
"Stop," I told them. Everyone looked to me for answers, but I decided I'd get my first decision out of the way.
"Erin, you'll stay here."
"But-"
"No buts. I need you here to take over my duties while I'm gone." She was upset, but she didn't say anything else.
"Are you going from pack to pack or will you be stopping here occasionally?" Kevin, the oldest among us at 24, asked.
"The first stop is this pack right here." I pointed to the email I received from Alec, and everyone huddled around to see it.
"Graelind." Carter tilted his head and shrugged. "It's an 'aight pack name I guess." A few of us snickered.
"Now," I started, looking at the roster of members that lay in front of me. "There are seventeen adults, fifteen teenagers, and thirteen children here. Adults are outnumbered by twenty-eight, So at least eight adults need to stay here to keeps things running smoothly with the kids plus preparing meals while maintaining authority. Also, one tech has to stay." Amaya and Carter looked at one another and smiled. They were loyal to each other no matter what and I know when it came down to it, one would try to make the other happy.
"I know some of you probably wanted to come, but some will have to stay behind," I said
It took a few minutes, but eventually, there were some sighs before people were offering to stay. Those who chose to stay were willing to be the few that helped me and their people out tremendously, so those are the ones who have what it takes to help ensure the future of this place.
"Those who offered to stay, stand over there and those who didn't, over there." I separated the groups, Carter and Amaya choosing randomly. Including Carter, the group that chose to stay has eight which is exactly how many I need on the trip, so with me, that's nine.
"The ones who have offered to stay here," I looked at all of them, a smile stretching across my lips, "you are the ones who will go with me."
The entire room was shocked, but I knew they were excited. The others were upset, but they'd get over it. I need people who are willing to do things they might not necessarily want to do, and right here was a perfect example of how to determine who was right for the job.
