"Got a John Doe. GCS 3, intubated in the field," the EMT reported as Madeline rushed toward them.

"Going to Baghdad," Madeline replied, urgency in her voice.

"Okay, BP 90/60, heart rate 140s, sats 99%," the EMT continued, glancing at the monitor.

"Took three bullets—one to the head, two to the torso. Looks like some kind of targeted hit," the medic added, grimly.

"Trigger the MTP," Madeline said as they arrived at the trauma bay, the team moving swiftly to prep the patient. "All right, on my count, we get him over."

"1," the team leader counted.

"2," Madeline followed, taking her position.

"3!" they all said together, lifting the patient onto the table.

"Roll him," Madeline instructed, pulling up the coat to examine his back. "Got one through and through. Don't see a second exit wound. Back..."

Madeline placed her stethoscope to his chest, listening carefully. "Bilateral breath sounds. Let's get a FAST scan for his chest and abdomen," she said, removing her stethoscope and stepping back.

"And the head shot?" the EMT asked, eyeing the bandages.

"Wound is tangential. Looks like he caught a break," Madeline replied as she grabbed the wand for the FAST scan. As the scan began, she focused on the patient's abdomen. "There's a lot of fluid around his heart. Same in the belly. I've got to open him up. Page Dr. Rhodes now. Tell him to prep the hybrid OR."

"Stapler?"

Madeline stood outside the OR, watching through the glass as Dr. Connor Rhodes worked meticulously on the patient. The atmosphere was tense but focused, every movement of his hands precise as he navigated the delicate surgery. Suddenly, Ava rushed into the room, fully suited up, ready to assist.

As Madeline continued watching, a hand tapped her shoulder. She jumped, surprised, and turned to find Jay standing there, looking at her with a familiar smile.

"Jay!" Madeline exclaimed, her hands instinctively wrapping around his neck.

"Hey," Jay greeted, his lips meeting hers in a quick kiss. "I can't talk much today. I'm looking for Dr. Rhodes. Do you happen to know where he is?"

Madeline pulled back slightly and pointed toward the door. "Yeah, right in there."

"Thanks," he said, nodding at her before turning toward the door. Madeline pressed her mic and gave him a small nod to let him know it was clear to speak.

Jay spoke into the mic. "Dr. Rhodes, is your patient stable at the moment? I need to speak to you."

"He is, but now's not a good time, Jay," Connor's voice came through, calm but firm.
