"so I was wondering if you're free tomorrow night at 7:30?"

S7 E17: Before the fall

Watched them lower the coffin to the ground with white flowers covering the top. Tears were sliding down my face my emotions were just numb, Madeline held onto my left arm.

The unit along with Firehouse 51 and some of Will and Madeline's friends from work stood around us.

"May he Rest In Peace" the father said as those words brought me out of my thoughts.

Dirt was thrown into the deep hole I took a deep breath before I turned to look at Madeline pleading with her for us to leave.

She nodded her head and I followed her out, Hank stared at us as I held her hand.

Madeline was dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt with black jeans and a long white coat. And as always she was wearing her heels but this time they were red bottoms.

We arrived at my car and opened the door for her and closed before I got in myself.

"Jay takes a deep breath okay," Madeline said turning to face me and grabbing both my hands.

I nodded my head and took a deep breath I heard her counting in the background of my breathing.

"Why don't I drive us back?" She said.

"No, it's fine uhh let's get breakfast," I said before starting the car and driving off.

It's been two weeks since we laid him down to rest and now I'm back at work I couldn't stay at home alone with my thoughts, Madeline was visiting me a lot and I stayed with her we gotta closer with those two weeks, I decided I was going to ask her out on a date after work today I was ready to make the relationship we had serious.

"Got an update on the girl?" Hank asked as Kim placed a picture of the little girl on the board.

"Yeah. Willa Marie James, ten years old. Was walking out of a field house, from orchestra rehearsal, when she caught the stray bullet. One in a million, Sarge. She's out of surgery, stable but critical. Family's with her" Kim said sitting by her desk.

"The deceased male is Brooks Campbell, 33. Identified and documented as the head of the Rollin Avers gang" Adam said placing the picture on the wall.

"So we convinced exactly one witness to talk, said the shooter Wales straight up, fired, and ran," Antonio said reading from his notepad, "But the guy was totally covered up, gloves, hoodie, jacket. Couldn't tell what race he was. Couldn't even tell if he was a he"

"Hell of a witness," Kevin said walking up.

"Well, he did give us one thing, though. Said the shooter fled the scene in an old school Pontiac, an Aztec" Kim said underlining Pontiac Aztec, "No plates, though"
