A year had passed since Jay asked Madeline to be his girlfriend, and their relationship had only grown stronger with each passing day. The quiet moments shared between long shifts, stolen kisses after difficult cases, and the constant support they gave each other had solidified their bond. They'd even started talking about the next step—moving in together. They both dreamed of a cozy apartment they could call their own, but the reality of their busy careers had kept them from seriously looking for a place. There was always something urgent at work, and finding the time to house-hunt felt like a distant goal.

As Jay ended the phone call with Madeline, he smiled to himself. It had become a routine of sorts—catching up during her break, even if it was just for a few minutes, before they both returned to their demanding jobs. He missed her, especially tonight when she was working the night shift. He wouldn't see her until the afternoon or, more likely, when he got off work the next day.

A sigh escaped him as he grabbed his coffee cup and took a sip, trying to focus on the paperwork in front of him. His phone buzzed again—another message from Madeline, a simple text wishing him a good rest of his shift.

"Yes, but we've already given you 10% on top of the four."

" That's more money than we've ever given anyone, and that's only because we want to do this with you for the long haul."

Jay and Hailey were crouched inside a van, watching the live feed of the deal Vanessa and Kevin were involved in on the computer.

"Whoa, what the hell is she doing?" Jay muttered, squinting at the screen as Vanessa walked away from Kevin. "Halfway house? What the hell are they talking about? Who is this guy?"

"I don't know," Hailey replied, equally confused. "I've never seen him before."

"No, no, no... I want to know what this whole Vanessa Rojas, hyper out-of-her-mind act you've got going on is," Jay said, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Whoever he is, he just used her real name," Jay added, his concern growing. "We gotta get them out of there. He could blow her cover."

"If we pull them now, we're risking losing the buy," Hailey replied, keeping her eyes glued to the screen. "She can handle it. She can do it."

Jay was still uneasy. "Who are you here with?" the man on the screen asked, his voice low.

"Just work friends," Vanessa responded quickly, flashing a smile as she pulled the man closer by his shirt collar and kissed him.

"Well, that's one way to do it, huh?" Jay mumbled, shaking his head

"Our scene is clean. Detective Ray called it perfect. We got nothing" Voight said walking away from the board.

"That's 12 suspected bodies on Gael, including his own cousin" she pointed at pictures of the murder scene.
