Madeline lay on the bed, staring blankly out the window. It had been two hours since she woke up, but she hadn't uttered a single word. The room was silent, the only sounds the steady beeping of the machines and the distant chatter of nurses moving through the hall. Her parents had left briefly to grab some breakfast, though her mother had been hesitant to leave her side. Her father had insisted, gently coaxing her out of the room.

"Baby, talk to me," Jay whispered softly, taking her hand in his.

Madeline slowly turned her head to meet his gaze, her eyes filled with sadness and pain. "J-J-Jay," she whimpered, her voice barely audible.

Without a word, Jay sat down beside her and gently pulled her into a tight embrace. The once quiet room was now filled with her quiet sobs. He held her close, running his hand up and down her back in soothing motions, comforting her as best as he could.

"Hey, Madeline," he murmured softly, his voice tender and reassuring. "It's okay, you're alright. You don't have to worry about him ever touching you again. You're safe now, in my arms."

Jay kissed the top of her head, his own heart aching.

The next day, they were at Jay's apartment. Madeline had been too scared to go back to her own place, still shaken by everything that had happened. She had barely left the bedroom, only stepping out when she needed to eat or use the bathroom. Jay was doing his best to make her feel as comfortable as possible, but he knew it was going to take time.

Jay was sitting on the couch, watching TV, when he heard soft footsteps down the hallway. He turned his head to see Madeline standing there, wearing one of his oversized shirts and a pair of shorts, her eyes soft and unsure.

"Can we have a movie night?" she asked quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jay smiled, nodding his head as he reached for the remote. He switched the TV over to Netflix and patted the seat beside him. "Of course, babe," he said. "Pick whatever you want."

Madeline settled in next to him, curling up against his chest as he pulled a blanket over them. She scrolled through the options, then chose a Korean drama that Jay had no clue about. He kissed her cheek softly before focusing back on the screen, trying his best to follow along with the show.

She began explaining the premise—some supernatural romance-thriller that sounded a lot more complicated than he was used to. "Gosh, Lee Dong-wook is so hot, and he's 40, babe!" she gushed, blushing a little as she stared at the screen.

Jay laughed, shaking his head. "Babe! You know your boyfriend is right here, right?" he teased, nudging her playfully.

She chuckled, leaning in close to whisper in his ear. "Okay, but he doesn't know I exist. Plus, he doesn't touch me like you do."

Jay's heart fluttered at the thought of her words. "Of course he doesn't," he said with a grin, before leaning in to kiss her lips gently. "Do you know how much I love and appreciate you, babe?"

Madeline shook her head, a small smile forming. "No, why don't you show me?" she said, her voice teasing as she licked her lips.

Jay smirked, leaning forward to kiss her again. The kiss started slow, gentle, with the taste of her cherry lip balm lingering on his lips. As their lips parted, Madeline's hands found their way to his hair, pulling him closer as her moans vibrated softly against his mouth. The tension between them was undeniable, and Jay couldn't resist pulling her onto his lap.

"Let's take this to the bedroom," she whispered, breathless.

Jay shook his head, his hand gently resting on her waist. "Babe, you need to rest," he said softly, kissing her lips once more. "Let's just watch the show, okay? I don't want to force you into anything you're not ready for."

Madeline smiled, her face softening as she leaned into him. "You're truly the best thing that's ever happened to me, really, Jay," she said, cupping his face gently.

Jay smiled back, his heart swelling with affection. "You're the best thing that's ever happened in my life too, babe. I love you," he said, kissing her once again.

She giggled softly, teasing him. "So you meant my parents?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I did," Jay admitted with a chuckle. "I won't lie and say they like me, or that they don't, but their attention was on you the whole time. Your mom was kind though—she even sent me home to shower, change, and eat."

Madeline smiled at the memory. "That's my mother for you," she said with a small laugh.

Jay smirked as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I still can't believe she's Hank's sister," he mumbled, shaking his head in disbelief.
