I hate him, I hate him!

And Lily hated herself more for even thinking such ridiculous thing. But his words still kept bouncing inside her head.

'I'm sorry, but it's not my fault you are wearing such short skirt.'

Ugh, that gall of a man! How dare he insinuated that it was her fault just because she was wearing a skirt? Okay, maybe it was too short but what the hell. She could very well not predict what was going to happen. Goodness, he was making her blood boil. And to think she just accidentaly met him at the supermarket the other day.

"Earth to Lily," Vicky Whitely's voice unceremoniously broke through the indescribable haze that was surrounding Lily's mind at the moment, snapping her out of her wandering thoughts.

Startled, she blinked back rapidly as she focused her itinerant attention back to her friend, who she guessed, was talking or better yet, asking something of utmost importance based on the concerned look she was directing at her.

Lily leaned back from her crouched position and sat straight on her chair. She shook her head in a daze before started sipping her favourite caramel macchiato.

Gazing back at Vicky who was giving her the perfectly raised brow matching her curious gaze, Lily knew she was on to some persistent interrogations that she would gladly dodge off.

She wasn't keen on sharing to her the details of what had been occupying her precious mind lately, not yet anyway. It was silly, even she admitted.

If only she could totally forget it.

"What was that you were asking earlier?" Lily enquired after schooling her features to look like less than that of a distant woman she surely was flawlessly projecting a moment ago. Exhaling a longer breath as inconspicuous as she could, she met her friend's perusal head on.

"Is something wrong with Emiko?" The frantic worried-laced voice of her friend surprised and also confused Lily for a moment before she answered in negative as that was the truth.

"Emiko's actually fine though and quite excited to meet his friends this morning. Why do you ask?" Bamboozled to boot from Vicky's weird question and reactions, Lily shook her head again and languidly stretched her cramped up legs under the desk they occupied, careful not to step on her friend's toes.

"Well, thank goodness," Vicky expressed in relief as she leaned back on her chair as well, but barely breaking her gaze with Lily. "I thought for a second there that something was wrong with him since you have this wandering off the point look and you seemed restless."

Oh, Lily suddenly felt self-conscious and ... guilty? Am I that obvious?

"I'm sorry. There's just a lot on my mind lately. You know with my parents and all," she reasoned instead and it wasn't a lie though.

Truth be told, the situation with her parents was taking a toll from her beauty sleep. She'd rather focus on the latest one that's been invading her mind these days. Atleast she wouldn't have to deal with it in reality than that crazy situation she had with her parents.

Heaving a sigh upon the sympathetic look she got from Vicky, Lily steered her thoughts back to the most important thing of all - Emiko - which brought her back to why she was chatting with Vicky in the first place. She'll move heaven and earth just for his happiness, especially now that she needed to protect him more.
