The rest of the summer holiday passed quickly and soon it was the end of July. A couple of days ago I had finished packing my trunk properly and attended to the children, to make sure they knew where to reach me in an emergency and to make sure they were comfortable with me leaving.

I put the children to bed and made sure all of their bags were packed and ready for school. Once that was done, I sat downstairs and waited for Cathy. She came in drunk. Again. I sighed and sat her down. I gave her some water and a bowl of soup. She ate it and then threw the bowl at me.

"You think that you are all high and mighty now that you get to go to a posh school. Sitting over there with a smirk on your face." She screamed at me.

I told her to be quite and not wake the children and she laughed.

"That's all you care about isn't it? Only the children and their needs. What about my needs huh? What will you do if one day you came back from your posh and snobby school to find that we won't be here?" I frowned and felt sad, although I know it was just the drunk side of her talking.

I heard Ben cry over the baby monitor so I quickly walked upstairs and calmed him down before Jamie could wake. When I went back downstairs, Cathy had passed out at the kitchen table. I sighed and covered her with a blanket and put a pillow under her head. I then washed up her dishes and made myself some toast. I hadn't eaten all day.

Once I finished eating, I washed up my plate and then cleaned the front room and kitchen. I then went upstairs to check on the children, everyone was still asleep. I went to the toilet and brushed my teeth, I then went to my bedroom and put my pajamas on before climbing into bed.

When I awoke the next morning, I quickly got dressed and brushed my hair and my teeth. I then packed my hairbrush and toothbrush before double checking I had everything. I did. I grabbed the trunk and struggled to put it downstairs and by the front door. I then walked around the downstairs rooms to see if Cathy was in. She wasn't. I walked into the kitchen and saw she had left a note.

I read it and scoffed. She really hired a babysitter to look after everyone this morning rather than doing her job of looking after everyone. Of course she did. I opened the front door as someone knocked and saw our neighbour standing on the doorstep. I invited her in and she said she was the babysitter. I nodded and told her that everyone was still asleep.

I told her where everything was and have her the file that listed what to do in emergency situations and how to deal with bad behaviour. I then went upstairs to pick up the cat carrier. I checked to make sure the cat was inside, which she was and then popped my head around Lucy's door.

I wrote a quick note and placed it in her hand. I then kissed her forehead and walked back downstairs. I used the phone to call a taxi to take me to King's Cross Station and then put my shoes on. I placed Nala's carrier on top of my trunk and she let out a mew to let me know she was still there.

I grabbed my bag with my wand inside and my robe and put that on my back. When the doorbell rang, I picked up Nala and opened the door. I asked the taxi driver to place my trunk in the boot of the car and he begrudgingly did so.

When we pulled up outside the station, I asked him to help me put the trunk on a trolley. He did so and I paid him generously. He smiled and wished me luck with wherever I was going. I nodded and looked around for platform 9 3/4. I couldn't see it. There was only platform 9 and platform 10. Was it a mistake?

I looked around me and saw a black haired boy who also looked lost. He was pushing a trolley with a snowy owl in a cage on top of it. I pushed my trolley over to him and asked him if he knew where we was going. He shook his head and looked as lost as I did. I saw a big family of ginger haired people and saw that they also had trolleys. I pointed them out to the boy and we made our way over to them.
