When the bell rang signaling the end of the school day I took in a deep breath and tried to convince myself that I wasn't walking towards my doom. Peter waited for me as always and this time he wore a smug look on his face.
"You ready?" he asked me as we walked to our lockers. I shook my head and glared at him as I switched out my books for the ones I would need for homework tonight.
"No, but lets go do this thing..." I mumbled begrudgingly. He laughed and laced our fingers together as we slowly walked towards the gym where we had been a bunch of times but this was like a whole new experience for me. I braced myself for impact as we walked into the big room.
For the most part all was quiet at first. Peter received a few smirks from the guys as a sort of 'we will grill you later' but other than that it was pretty low-key. At least compared to what I had been expecting. Then, of course, it hit. The rest of the varsity team came in and it was all hoots and hollers from the guys.
"Way to go Pete!!" Brian yelled from across the room. I blushed red at the fact that I was the cause for this 'celebration'. If that's what you call it anyway... "So, you finally pulled the trigger huh? You've been gushing about this girl for how many weeks now? Bringin' her to practice and takin' her home with you." He rambled on. I was already red but when I looked over to my 'boyfriend' he was also the same shade of crimson. He must have actually talked about me in the past, which set off butterflies in my stomach. I was pulled from my thoughts by the heard of guys moving closer to us.
"Yep, she's all mine now." He said slinging his arm protectively around my shoulder. I then dug in a bit deeper into Peter's side in hopes that I wouldn't have to speak to any of the riled up jocks in front of me.
"So V, what made you finally say yes? Did he get you into bed? I hear that's his go to move. Shame too, you didn't look like the type of girl to be so easy..." this guy Steve said. I went cherry red and Peter clenched his fist. I looked up to see he was steaming mad and I tried to put my hand on his chest and calm him down but he had horse blinders set on Steve right now.
"Don't you dare say that about her! You take it back!" Peter yelled getting up in Steve's face. I stayed quiet behind them until the situation diffused itself. Peter came back over to me and I decided to finally speak up.
"No, FYI it wasn't anything like that. He was sweet and I said yes because I like him for him, not what he can do 'in the bedroom'." I said putting air quotes around the last part. I glanced straight at Steve next. "I wouldn't be that shallow." I nearly spit at him. He smirked and then walked away leaving the rest of the guys to grill us a bit more.
"Well V, you know Peter has never been quite so excited by a girl. Makes me wonder what does go on with you guys when you're home." Connor winked. Although it was aimed as a joke I couldn't help but feel the embarrassment of that comment.
"Yes, I'm sure Peter the Great is super exciting" I tried to joke, which of course backfired for me.
"Oh look at that she's already got a pet name for him. How sexy." Brian winked at me. I lost all confidence then and scurried back to Peter's side where he looked at the boys in disgust.
"Dude we are working on a history project together and that's the kings name. Stop being so gross and back off." He said while pulling me closer. I felt oddly at ease while he was doing this and tried not to get used to it, after all this would only last for the week.
"All right boys! Time to hit the fields! Get changed and meet me out there in five!" the coach boomed. I went to collect my things to bring outside with me while the boys all filed in to get ready for practice.
