Ned and I walk into the robotics workshop and go straight to Peter.
"Hey, thanks for bailing on me," exclaims Ned.
"Yeah, Tony got mad at me for what you did. What did you do?" I chime in.
"Something came up," Peter said and pointed to the table.
We glance down at a glowing purple stone inside a piece of machinery. "Woah, what is that?" asked Ned.
"I don't know," replies Peter while trying to dig it out of all the wires. "Some guy tried to vaporize me with it."
I continue to stare at it, receiving flashbacks of the glowing white sphere at Hawkins Lab, the source of my energy manipulation power. I vaguely hear Ned rambling while I'm thinking, until I'm pulled out of my trance.
"Y/n, are you okay?" Peter asks.
I shoot him an astonished look. "Hm? Yeah, I'm fine."
He nods and proceeds trying to take the glowing object out. "Well, look, I think it's a power source."
"Yeah, but its connected to all these microprocessors. That's an inductive charging plate. That's what I use to charge my toothbrush," Ned points out.
"Whoever's making these weapons is obviously combining alien tech with ours," notes Peter.
"Weapons? That's what you were doing last night then? Chasing weapons dealers?" I question. Peter nods.
"That is literally the coolest sentence anyone has ever said. I just want to thank you for letting me be part of your journey into this amazing-"
He cuts himself off when Peter pounds a hammer onto the device, making us back up when the stone clatters onto the table with a loud clanging noise.
The three of us turn around to check if the teacher heard it. The old man didn't bother to look up from his book and called out, "keep your fingers clear of the blades." Wow, what a caring teacher.
We turn back to look at the glowy thing. Peter sets his hands on the table and says, "I gotta figure out what this is and who makes it."
"We'll go to the lab after class and run some tests," states Ned.
"Let's do it," responds Peter before they do their unique handshake. I smile at them.
"Awww, that is so cute," I gush. They look at each other and blush, embarrassed.
We all exit the workshop and Ned continues the conversation, "first, I say we put the glowy thing in the mass spectrometer."
"First, we gotta come up with a better name than 'glowy thing," Peter answered.
I chuckle and say, "yeah, that's a lame name for it."
"You guys are right," acknowledges Ned.
Peter suddenly freezes and whisper-shouts, "crap!" He zooms away and hides behind the nearby wall. "Come on, come on, come on," he urges for Ned and I to join him. We rapidly hide behind the wall as well. All three of us peek around the corner and see two men walking down the hall. Peter and I quickly slam our backs against the wall, and his hand accidentally lands on top of mine, which was flat against the smooth surface.
"Hey, that's one of the guys that tried to kill me," he whispers, looking at me.
"Seriously," I ask. He responds, "yeah," before peering around the wall again.
"We gotta get out of here," Ned exclaims.
"No, no, no, no, no. I gotta follow them. Maybe they can lead me to the guy that dropped me in the lake," whispers Peter.
