Chapter Nine

Who am I?

It felt like I had rammed my skull straight through a wall. Perhaps that's exactly what had happened. I wasn't exactly sure. I opened my left eye, wincing at the harsh sunlight that hit it like a truck. I forced myself into a seated position, gasping in pain as I immediately brought my hand up to the right side of my face, pausing when I'm met with a thick layer of fabric. I sighed softly as I pushed myself up into a standing position now, my body hit with a sudden weakness as I fell back to the wooden floor with a 'thud'. I groaned softly as I held the back of my head which had been the source of the noise. I whimpered as tears filled my left eye, the bandages covering the right quickly being soaked as I sobbed childishly. I didn't notice when the door opened, or when footsteps could be heard. I only noticed when I was pulled into a lap, the woman cooing to me softly as she brushed my tears away. I opened my eyes as I looked up at her, my left eyes blurring the image, the pain steadily dissappearing along with my tears. Finally I blinked the last set of tears away as I looked up at the woman. She was breathtaking, Yet familiar. I couldn't match who she was in my mind. She had snow white skin and pale lavender eyes, her lips a stunning red and her hair a blueish silver with what appeared to be ivory colored horns nestled in the locks. she looked down at me, a soft smile on her face. I sniffled softly as I cocked my head slightly, my head still pounding but not nearly as badly before speaking softly. "E-excuse me.. but.. you just.. look so familiar.. are you.. my mother?.." the woman's eyes widened slightly before her smile turned sad. "Yes little one, can you not remember?" I shook my head, wincing slightly at the movement before feeling the pain melt away, the woman holding her hand gently held the right side of my face. "What happened to me? Why does everything.. hurt? Why can't I remember?" The woman gives me a reassuring smile as she begins to softly pet my hair. "You took a nasty fall and injured yourself. I assume that is why you cannot remember. Don't worry dear daughter.." I felt her hold me closer to her, squeezing borderline painfully before letting off slightly at my change in expression. "You will never be harmed in my care. No one will ever lay a finger onto you." I nod softly with a soft smile. "Okay mother. Can I ask.. what's my name?" The woman smiles as she leans in, planting a soft kiss onto my forehead. "Your name is Akane Ōtsutsuki." I nod softly as I send her a smile, the woman smiling back as she moves to stand, helping me up as I stand with her. "Come Akane, you should be healed enough. let's meet your brothers." I nodded as I followed the woman, my eyes drifting to look at everything in curiosity as I gently held onto her sleeve, if it bothered her, she never showed it as we made our way through the beautiful home before stepping outside, I squinted my eye slightly as I stepped behind mother a little more, shielding my eyes with her body as she sent me a soft smile before leading me onto a balcony where two men were conversing. One with light brown hair and the other with hair matching mothers. Mother stood calmly until the men quickly gave her their attention, both eyeing me wearily as I just stared back in confusion. If they are my brothers, shouldn't they know me? "Mother." The one with brown hair spoke, turning his attention back to mother while she gently sat a hand on my head, interrupting him. "Akane, this is Hagoromo and Hamura. You're brothers. Boys, this is your sister, Akane." Both men blinked before looking at me. "So you finally woke up then Akane? It's about time." I smiled softly as I nodded, mother giving me a soft smile as she gently petted my hair before speaking. "You boys may resume your duties. Akane needs to rest longer for her injuries to heal fully. Do not bother her unless permitted by me." Both boys nod in unison and we turn to leave, me giving them a soft wave goodbye causing them to smile and wave back.
