I put the CD in my small CD player and hook it up to my speaker and turned it up really loud.
I grabbed a duffel bag and my backpack.
I stuffed clothes in the duffel bag and all my technology stuff like my laptop and phone their chargers and any headphones or music stuff I have in my backpack.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING?" my foster mom yells over the music.
"Getting out of this hell hole." I tell her.
She starts saying something else but I turn the volume on my music up even louder.
She tries to go and turn it down but I pick it up, clipping the player to my belt and putting the speaker in the pocket of my oversized hoodie.
I grab my bags and run past her.
"You cant leave!"
"Why not? The only reason you want me here in the first place is for the check that you get each month that's supposed to be used for my necessities but it's all spent on you and your boy toys. I played for all of this stuff with my own money so get the hell away from me."
And with that I walk out the house.
"Y/n! How are you doing sweetie?" I turn to see Mr. Molina standing in his yard.
"I'm good just going to spend sometime with my aunt."
"That's good! Come visit sometime okay?" I nod and continue walking.
I walk through the streets, the music still playing.
When all the days were black and white
those were the best shades of my life
My older cousins voice fills my ears.
Well hes my second cousin to be exact.
I knock on aunt Emily's door.
"Hello sweetie how've you been?" She gives me a hug. Aunt Emily has always loved me and supported me.
I think she feels bad about never believing in luke and wants to fix it with me.
She fought to have me live with her after mom died but it didnt work out. I never really knew why it just didnt happen.
I was welcome here anytime though.
"Not great." I say.
"Why?"
"Well you know that savings account mom set up for me?" She nods as i sit on the couch.
"Well vicky got her hands on the money somehow and took a good chunk out of it and put it into her regular account."
"That's illegal."
"I know but I dont have anything to go up against her with."
Emily notices the music coming from my speaker and smiles a bit looking down at her hands.
"Oh sorry. I listen to it when I'm upset." I say turning off the speaker.
"Its fine. You can stay in Luke's old room." She smiles at me and gives me one more hug before sending me to get comfortable in the old room.
It hasn't changed in years. She gave me the room years ago and told me that I could do whatever I want with it. I didnt wanna change it though.
I liked it. The faded band posters on the wall. I had ransacked his closet and made some of his clothes into mine. Stole a few of his beanies, even the hoodie I'm wearing right now is his.
I walk into the room and see a figure in the corner.
"Who are-" the figure turns around and I see my dead cousin.
I fall backwards in shock.
I get up and walk towards him.
I reach my hand out to his cheek.
"You wont be able t-" he says when I touch his cheek causing us both to jump.
"Wait you can see me? Touch me?" I nod slowly.
"How are you here?" I say breathily.
"I'm a ghost?" He says.
"You sound unsure." I say crossing my arms.
"Well I'm a ghost and you shouldnt be able to see me or touch me. This is insane."
"Ghost? You know I always said vicky would drive me insane but this time shes actually done it"
"You're not crazy and who's vicky?"
"Foster mom."
"Well then how do you know my mom."
"My mom was her niece."
"Annie?" He asks and I nod.
"You knew her?"
"Yeah she was my little cousin."
"Then i guess I'm your new little cousin."
He smiles, but then it dissapears.
"What happened to her?"
"My dads a jerk." He gives me a look and then suddenly it seems to click in his head.
"I'm going to kil-"
"Hes already dead."
"How?"
"Just a few days before his trial he decided to go for a drive. That he never came back from. After a week they found him dead in the car on a backroad."
"I'm so-"
"Its fine. He was a crappy father anyways."
"So umm... what's your name?"
"Y/n."
"Hey! I picked that name!"
"I know, emily told me. You and my mom had a bet that if you got a gig at the Orpheum then you got to pick the name of her first daughter. You knew exactly what you were gonna pick."
"Yeah, we always made bets like that. There was this one time when I was a freshman and she was in sixth grade that i bet her she couldn't beat me in a race and if I won-"
"Then she'd have to confess her feelings for her crush at the time. You won."
He laughs.
"Umm, emily told me evrything about you. You've fascinated me since I was little. I've listened to every song on your demo, I've watched all of the home videos from when you were little, gone through all of the pictures, I've read every song in your left over notebooks. Emily could never bring herself to read tham and the only time she really comes in here is when I'm in here. She says that she likes seeing me in here, makes her feel like the room is a little less empty, no longer a sad memory."
"You've really read every song? Seen every picture?" He says laughing a bit.
"Yep, I used to be obsessed with you. Now I just feel like you're a kindred spirit."
"How so?"
"Well emily says I'm like you reincarnated, I fill the little hole in her heart that losing you left just a little bit. Doesnt make her miss you any less, just makes her feel less, sad, empty."
Hes quiet for a second.
"She really thinks we're alike?"
"Yeah, I've always been obsessed with music. I play three different instruments, I sing, but I mostly just listen to it. Silence is too loud not to have it there." I say laying on the bed.
"I used to say the same thing." He sits down next to me, then looks at what I'm wearing.
"Is that my hoodie?"
"Maybe."
"You stole my clothes?"
"Well I mean it's not like you were using them."
"You know what?... you right."
I laugh.
"Hey y/n? Who you talking to?" Emily says from the other room.
I look at luke. He looks sad.
"No one, just a YouTube video."
"Okay sweetie."
"I really miss her." Luke says.
"She really misses you. I think she kind of sees me as the universe giving her a second chance. A chance to do it right, support her child." I say sniffling, I'm far to vain to cry in front of someone I just met.
"Well I'm glad. Shes a good person. She deserves a second chance."
"She really does."
"What about dad?"
"What about him?"
"How is he? How does he feel about your music?"
"He doesnt concern himself with it too much. He likes hearing me play though. Makes him feel like you're back."
"What kind of music do you play?"
"Not rock music. I listen to it alot though. I normally just like playing simple acoustic stripped music."
"Like what?"
"What do you mean?"
"Show me something you've wrote."
I nod.
I walk over to an old guitar.
"They still have that thing?"
"They put it in the attic. I was helping them clean it out when I was like eight. They said I could have it."
He smiles, he gestures to the guitar asking if he can hold it.
I nod and he takes it in his hands.
"Its like going back in time." He says smiling.
I smile back at my cousin.
"Play something!" He says excitedly, shoving the car in my hands.
"Okay?"
I sit on the edge of the bed and strum the guitar.
How can you miss someone you've never met
Cause I need you now but I dont know you yet
Well can you find me soon because I'm in my head
Yeah I need you now but I don't know you yet
I look up from the guitar as I sing the chorus.
I look at luke and his eyes are full of wonder.
How can you miss some one you've never seen?
Tell me are your eyes brown blue or green.
And do you like it with sugar and cream
Or do you take it straight or just like me
Lately it's been hard
They're selling me for parts
And I dont wanna be modern art
But I've only got half a heart to give to you
And I hope its enough
Ooohh
Ooohh
Oohh
Ooohh
How can you miss someone you've never met
Cause I need you now but I dont know you yet
I look up at him again as I finished the song.
"That was- when did you write that?"
"I was in the 8th grade. I needed someone who got me, because it felt like no one did, then i found your old demo and when i listened to it i realized that you were just like me. I started to miss you which was weird because i never even knew you. I showed it to emily and she though it was about a boy. In a way it was just not in the way she was thinking."
"Well it's really good."
"Thank you."
We talked until dinner, he had to leave yo see his freinds.
"Visit again soon?"
"You betcha." He said. He gave me a kiss on the forehead and poofed out.
When you refer to the other half of your sould people always think you're talking about love, but sometimes you're just talking about some one who understands you.
Sometimes you're just talking about a kindred spirit.

Okay this was Suprisingly good. Might make a book out of this at a later date (when I finish the other 500 I've already started)
I hope you guys liked this one as much as I did!
Love ya!
