I stop at the red light. waiting for cars to pass.
I know I could just walk right through them but the fact that they're glorified tin cans that weigh a ton still scares me even though they can't hurt me.
Once the light turns green I walk across the street with the rest of the pedestrians.
The streets are dark, illuminated by streetlights and neon signs. I take in a deep breath and scrunch up my nose.
I love sunset blvd but it smells like crap. I laugh no apparent reason and just continue on, my brain making up funny stories as I go.
I pass by a house that's illuminated with life. There's a group of people in a backyard, all gathered around a shed or garage type thing.
"Time to put your hands up
Do a little dance yup
Here's the new anthem
From Julie and the Phantoms" a voice says from a microphone somewhere.A girl comes out, she's pretty with curly hair, it has butterflies in it.
Her shirt has them pinned on it too.
As she starts singing my mind goes to a story my father used to tell me and my twin sister.
It was a story about two sisters, one ugly yet kind and one beautiful yet cruel.
One day the sisters were playing by a lake or pond of some sort (I can't quiet remember. I haven't heard this story in thirty nine years) and the beautiful sister got angry at the other one for some reason and she pushed her in the lake.
She expected her sister to drown but instead butterflies and fairies lifted her from the water, then something happened and the kind sister became beautiful and the wretched sister ugly.
The wretched sister fell in the pond and ended up drowning.
My sister never liked that story because it didn't have a happy ending. That was exactly why I loved it though.
I had been so lost in thought that I hadn't noticed three boys pop up around the girl.
They're like me.
After just a moment two of the boys disappeared and the last one made his way over to the piano.
He sang with the girl, the chemistry between the two thick as molasses.
After he poofed away I decided to go to the garage and try to see where they had gone.
I wanted so desperately to talk to someone who could see me.
The only ghosts I've encountered have tried to lead me to a place of lies and trickery but I never fell for it.
I know a snake when I see one.
I poof into the garage and look around. The doors close and the three boys appear in front of me.
"Who are you?" The brown haired on asked. He didn't say it rude, he was just curious.
"Y/n. Who are you?" I ask the question slowly, inspecting the three boys, my leather journal clasped in my hands tight. My knuckles are almost white from the pressure of it.
"Alex." The blond one says and I smile at him. He seems finnicky. Almost nervous.
"Reggie." The dark haired one says with a lopsided smile on his face.
"Luke." The brown haired one says, a little wary but kind.
"Well it's very nice to meet the three of you. Tell me, you wouldn't happen to be apart of a secret club of ghosts and lifers? Would you?"
