My alarm clock rang louder than usual, or maybe it was just my imagination. I groaned as I rolled out of my bed and headed downstairs.

My little sister Emma who was 8, was sitting at the kitchen table eating waffles.

I smiled at her,  "Are you ready for your first day of 2nd grade."

"Yes, 1st grade was too boring." She replied as a look of disgust crept on her face.

I chuckled to myself as I made myself a protein shake.

My parents are never around; my dad used to be an attorney but now let's say he isn't in the picture anymore, and my mom runs a successful business and is constantly traveling to the other side of the country. So it's usually me, Emma, and Mary, our live-in nanny; she has been more of a mother to Emma and me than our own. "Oh my gosh, I can't believe my babies are starting senior year and 2nd grade!"

I looked up and saw  Mary walking over to hug me.

"Hurry up and get ready. You have to leave in 20 minutes." She moved past me swiftly, grabbed Emma's plate, and walked over to the sink.

I ran upstairs to throw on some random clothes and run my fingers through my hair. I looked down at my phone, which I instantly regretted.

I groaned as I read the 15 texts from Natalie (my girlfriend).

"Babe, are you not picking me up for school," "Babe, answer," "Babe, run to Starbucks real fast and bring me a Cappuccino," and ext.

I sent her a quick text back.

I'm sorry Nat, I woke up late. I'll make it up to you, I promise:)

I grabbed my car keys and headed toward the garage. I picked up my baseball bag and threw it in the trunk of my Audi. My father never liked to have a car for more than two years, so the last car he was going to trade in, he ended up just giving it to me.

I started my car and picked up my phone. As I began to drive, I called my friend Cooper.

"Hey, Coop, are you ready for the first day of fall conditioning."

"You know it, but I'm more interested in seeing if the softball team will play well this year."

"Well, I don't know; Coop, the softball team, hasn't been doing so well these last couple of years."

Just as I was pulling into the school, I almost got T-Boned by a girl in a Wrangler.

I didn't even realize I ended the call on Coop; I was more worried about how I almost died. So I pulled into the spot next to her and got out.

"Hey, do you not know how to drive?" I asked.

I looked at her getting out of her car; she grabbed her backpack and looped it around her shoulder.

"Listen, pal. I wasn't the one who ran the stop sign."

I looked over and saw that I did run it; I must have been so distracted talking to Coop. I looked back to apologize, but she was already walking into the school with her curly blonde hair sparkling in the sun.
