after hogwarts

Y/N POV

running into the payphone booth drenched in water, the rain pounding down so hard it felt like needles on my skin, i slammed the door shut behind me.

my hands shook as i picked up the phone, only to realize i had no coins. no cash. nothing. i let out a frustrated groan, tears already threatening to spill.

ever since the battle of hogwarts, i'd been running on fumes. i searched for draco after the fighting stopped, but he was gone before i could reach him.

outside, rain bounced off the tops of umbrellas as people hurried by.

i wiped my tears with the back of my hand, catching a glimpse of myself in the reflection— hair plastered to my face, clothes clinging to my body.

then i froze.

a man in a black suit was walking past, holding a sleek black umbrella. there was something familiar about the way his shoes clicked against the pavement.

the umbrella tilted back, and i saw his face.

my breath caught.

draco.

his eyes locked on mine instantly, widening with worry. for a heartbeat, neither of us moved. then he was running toward me, pushing open the booth door and pulling me out into the downpour.

the umbrella shifted to cover us both as we stood there, water still dripping from my clothes.

"y/n," he breathed.

"why did you leave me?" my voice cracked as tears slid down my face, mixing with the rain.

"i had no choice. i'm so sorry." his tone was raw, desperate.

i stepped forward and wrapped my arms around him. he held me tightly, angling the umbrella so not a drop touched me.

"i've missed you so much." he murmured against my hair.

"i've missed you too." i whispered back.

he pulled away just enough to search my face, then leaned in, his lips pressing against mine. i kissed him back instantly, his hands cupping my cheek, thumb brushing my skin so softly it made my chest ache.

when we finally broke apart, he smiled faintly.

"glad you're safe." he said.

i smiled through the tears.

"hold this," he said, passing me the umbrella. i held it while he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders, pulling me closer again. then he took the umbrella from my hands.

"come on, let's take you to malfoy manor."

"wait, we're not staying here?" i asked, confused.

"no. i don't know the muggle world," he admitted, wrinkling his nose slightly. "besides, i feel..uncomfortable."

i laughed, shaking my head.

"let's go." he said firmly, tucking me under his arm as we started walking through the rain.
