y/n pov *

it's been a week since i last talked to draco. he would always stare at me, giving me sad looks. he tried to talk to me more than once, but i would just walk away.

"it's been a week." stella whispered.

"so?" i whispered back. we were in the middle of class—defense against the dark arts.

"you haven't been acting like yourself lately." she said softly.

"so what?" i shrugged.

stella sighed and rubbed my back for comfort before turning her attention back to the lesson. i fiddled with my fingers until i heard a cough. looking up, i saw my father standing there.

"come with me." he whispered. i got up and followed him outside the classroom.

"what's going on with you lately?" he asked quietly.

"nothing. just leave me alone." i said.

"i'm your father, y/n. is this about malfoy?" he pressed.

"so what? you wanted me to stop talking to him, right?" i asked, my voice rising.

"he's not good for you." he said firmly.

"no, he's actually really nice, but you just judge him based on his family." i said, leaning against the wall and looking down. "it was my first day, and he was the one who welcomed me. he's not a bad person, dad. i promise." i glanced at the floor.

he sighed, then pulled me into a hug.

"i'm sorry for keeping you away from him. i'm sorry for being a bad father." he admitted.

"you're not a bad father. i know you were just trying to look out for me." i smiled. "so can i talk to him?" i asked hopefully.

he nodded, and i hugged him excitedly, planting a kiss on his cheek. we returned to the classroom, and i ran to my desk, feeling happy.

"what happened?" stella asked as class ended. i dragged nathan and stella to the slytherin common room.

"my dad is letting me talk to draco!" i grinned, and they both gasped happily.

"finally! it's been almost a week." stella said.

"tomorrow's saturday. you and him can go to hogsmeade and visit the three broomsticks!" she squealed. i laughed.

"first, where is draco?" i asked.

"no idea." stella shrugged.

"he's at the astronomy tower." a voice said behind me. we all jumped and turned to see a boy.

"thank you!" i smiled. he nodded and walked away.

"weirdo." nathan muttered, giving the boy a strange look. the three of us ran to the astronomy tower and climbed the stairs.

i found draco looking out at the view.

"go." stella whispered. i nodded and stepped forward. he turned around, wand at the ready, then sighed.

"what are you doing here?" he asked, looking me in the eyes.

instead of answering, i ran into his arms. he hugged me tightly.

"i'm sorry. my father finally approved me talking to you." i said.

"wait, really?" he smiled.

i nodded and laughed as he lifted me into a hug.

"finally, i can talk to the girl i want to be with." he said softly.

"wait, really? you want to be with me?" i asked, surprised.

"yes. i haven't stopped thinking about you." he said. i hugged him again.

"can we go to the three broomsticks?" he asked.

"i was going to ask the same thing." i replied with a laugh.

"this one's a date." he said, smiling.

"but are we like a..." i began.

"a thing?" he finished. i nodded.

"do you want us to be a thing?" he asked.

"i do, but i want to get to know you more first, draco." i said, smiling.

"of course. i'll always wait for you." he smiled, pulling me into a big hug.

a squeal behind us made me turn. stella and nathan were watching us.

"god, can you scream even louder?" nathan groaned, covering his ears.

"i'm happy for you, draco. don't hurt her; i'm watching." stella warned with a playful glare, then squealed, "finally!"

"okay, stella, we get it." nathan sighed.

"she wouldn't stop talking. we were right under you guys the whole time." nathan added. stella gave me a big hug.

"anyways, dinner's about to start. let's go." she said.

i felt a hand slide into mine. i looked down to see draco's hand holding mine. together, we walked toward the great hall.
