My Best Friend

Meeting Joe

As soon as Denise and I were finished talking and we hung up, I walked over to the airport cafe to buy myself a grilled chicken sandwich and a bottle of water which I ate while feeding Camryn her bottle. After we both finished eating, I slid Cami into her stroller where she fell asleep. 10 minutes later, our flight was announced as "now boarding". While we were on our flight, Cami napped most of the time while I drifted between sleeping, reading my book and scribbling lyrics to a song I was in the middle of writing. About 4 hours after we took off, the pilot announced that we would begin to land. Once we landed, I pushed Cami in her stroller with my one carry-on and guitar to go wait by the baggage return to get our remaining luggage. While I was waiting, 2 people walked up to me,

"Are you Mackenzie Davis?" The younger one asked.
"Yes, I am...Oh, you're Joe," my eyes bugged open.
"Yeah, I am," Joe answered, "but please don't say that too loud, this day is all about meeting Dani's best friend." He finished by taking my suitcases and last carry-on from the baggage carousel after telling him which ones were mine.
As I watched him take my bags, I said, "Wow, a famous rock star is still a gentleman."
"Yeah, I guess my mom did a good job raising her kids," he said, starting to blush.

"I didn't mean to embarrass you," I explained, "I just mean that everything you hear about celebrities, they only think about themselves and don't want to help an ordinary person. It's refreshing to see a famous person who breaks that pattern. So, should we start over? Hi, my name is Mackenzie Davis," I finished holding out my hand.
"Sounds good. My name is Joe Jonas," Joe reached for my hand and shook it. "Hey, is this the little one that my mom told me I was also picking up?"
"Yes, this is Camryn, my niece," I picked her up out of her stroller and turned her towards Joe, so, she could see him.
"Hi, Camryn, it's nice to meet you," Joe cooed to her, then said to me, "How about if we get your luggage and stroller in my car and we'll head home so you can see Dani again? Rob, would you help me with her stuff?"

"Sure, Joe. Hi, Mackenzie, I'm in charge of security for this guy and his brothers," Rob introduced himself to me.
"Hi, Rob, it's nice to meet you," I told him.
"So, you play guitar?" Joe asked me as he picked up my guitar case to put it into his car.
"Yeah, in my spare time, when I'm not working as a nurse or taking care of Cami," I answered.
"Have you thought about writing any songs?" he asked.
"Actually, I have written a little bit. But what I've got isn't anywhere near finished and I've hit a wall with ideas to finish it," I answered.
"Well, when we get back to my family's home I want to hear what you've got so far," Joe said.
"Alright, I could use all the help I can get," I agreed.

So, I strapped Camryn into the car seat in the back seat of Joe's car and hopped into the front passenger seat. Joe climbed in beside me, started the car and drove off. As we headed for the Jonas family home, we chatted about just about everything we could think of. Finally we turned the final corner where I could see their house for the first time and my mouth dropped open with shock.
