Later that day, I pulled into the hospital parking lot, jumped out of my car and ran into the lobby. I walked up to the receptionist and asked, "I'm here to see my sister, Olivia Davis."
"Yes, Miss Davis is in the maternity ward, level 3." The nurse on duty reported.
"Maternity ward? Wha?" I said to myself as I headed for the elevator.
Once I got to her floor and found out she was in room 16-A, I walked into her room.
"Livvie! What are you doing here? What's going on? Why haven't we heard from you in 5 years?" I stammered on.
"Kenzie! I couldn't tell you or mom and dad. I left cause I thought I was in love," Livvie began to sob.
"Liv, you left because you were in love? Why?," I was shocked.
"I was afraid you'd be disappointed in me," Liv was crying so much she shook, "I thought I was in love, we eloped, but about a year ago I discovered I was pregnant. As soon as I told my now ex-husband, he left and I haven't seen him since."
"Liv, I'm your sister. I love you. I wouldn't have been disappointed in you. I would have loved my new little... Wait! Is it a girl or a boy? Livvie, do I have a niece or nephew?" I responded.
"It's a girl," Livvie answered, "Doc, tell my sister your news."
"Well, Miss Davis, your sister's baby girl is fine and healthy, unfortunately there were complications and she are not so lucky," Dr. Wright tried to break the news gently.
"You mean, my sister is dying?" I asked.
"Yes, Kenzie, I'm dying. And yes, I already knew. I've known since my baby was born that I wouldn't survive the birth. Kenz, I want you to leave now so you remember me this way and not worse. And I want you to raise my baby. The only thing I want is for her name to be Camryn," Livvie told me, also explaining that she and Camryn had been staying in the hospital for the 4 months since the birth.
"Ok, Liv, if that's what you want, I'll do it and when Camryn is old enough she'll know all about her mother, my favorite sister," I sobbed.
"Kenzie, I'm your only sister. And don't cry for me. When you remember me, just remember all the fun things we did, all the tea parties, the dance classes, all the sleepovers with Danielle," Liv told me.
