I woke up early this morning, I am normally the go on a run early in the morning type of person, and I haven't really made time for it. Mina tells me all the time that I could be just about the fastest running she has ever seen. I think she just likes having less kids in the house, but either way I figured I should at least humor her.

She's been more nervous lately, I wondered if it had to do with that lady that was here not too long ago. Wish I would've gotten her number, or name at least. And before you ask me, yes I have a phone, we get money for our chores and every year on Christmas and I started saving mine, this year I was finally able to get a phone. I don't do much with it though, I tried social media, I don't really like it all that much.

I had a feeling that adoption day was coming soon, we are regulated to have at least one a year, but seeing as this orphanage is on the better side of town, and well off one at that, people tend to come here often.

"Charlie it's just who I was looking for," Mina said, with a smile. Oh no, what does she want?

"What it is, Mina?" I asked, finishing up the last of the dishes.

"Adoption day is coming up, and well, you better be on your best behavior," she said sternly.

"I promsie..... ed other people I'd be on my worst behavior," I said, sucking my teeth in.

"Charlie. I am serious this person is very important, more girls could get adopted, so please, just for the sake of Emily, behave," she said, walking away. How she figured out about Emily was above my pay grade. To be fair it's not like you could keep a lizard hidden for long, but let a girl try anyways.

I was scared for the next two hours that I would find Emily dead lying around somewhere, and it would've died and I would never be able to figure if it's name should've been Emily or Emmanuel. I would've had to bury it and everything, but luckily I returned to the dorm I shared with another girl, and there she- it was staring back up at me.

"Emily!" I squealed, I picked her up like a baby, "Mamas home now, don't be scared little one," I cooed, almost nearly dropping her after my friend started speaking.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" she asked, laughing. I screamed like I was being murdered.

"Are you frickin' kidding me with that, there is nothing wrong with me, I am just attached," I said, averting all my attention back down to the lizard.

"Where'd you even get that?" Amber asked.

"It's not a that! Miss thang, I got it- I don't remember where I got it, but it's a lizard, and IT has a name, Emily," I sassed.

"Okayyy, well how is Emily's day going," Amber asked.

"Well if you'd been so kind to ask, her day is going better now that mama is here."

Amber burst into a fit of laughter, soon me joining in. Why would I ever want to leave this place? I love it.
