It was a chilly summer morning on the mountains outside of Shigashina district, a flock of ducks passed overhead. Birds began to chirp everywhere as the sun rose from the east. There was a little wooden house up in the mountains where a seemingly content family lived. The rays of sunshine beamed on the window that was covered in white transparent curtains. Some streaks of sunlight seeped through the window lighting up the room, directly shining on a girl's face.

The girl softly stirred in her sleep until finally the sunlight had rudely awoken her from her deep slumber. "Rise and shine, sleepy head" She heard a sweet voice say, booping her nose. She fluttered her eyes open to see that beautiful beaming smile of her mother's , her smile, that could outshine the sun. She sat up from bed rubbing her eyes. "Breakfast is ready." Her mother got up and left,  The little girl  looked over her shoulder to stare at the window. Every morning, the girl would wake up and walk to her bedroom window just to look out and view the beautiful scenery. It was an ordinary routine that she loved to do. She opened up her curtains to look out the window and was greeted with clear blue skies.

It was the same thing she always saw, trees, part of the mountains, and the light green grass that was filled with tiny insects but she still loved  it since it was the only thing she could enjoy. Nature was part of the many things she loved, right after her mother and father.

The smell of rice and eggs filled the air. Her mom was behind the counter not realizing that Mikasa stood there excitedly. When she turned she smiled,

"Mikasa! Oh! You didn't bother to brush your hair?"

"No..." Mikasa giggled.

"You better do it later. I want you to look like me!" Her mother chuckled lightly and propped a plate for her "Darling, sit down and eat some eggs that I prepared for you."

"Sorry... " Mikasa scratched her arm with a frown.

"Sweetie... I'm kidding! I will love you no matter what! You are so precious to your father and I." She pinched Mikasa's cheeks softly, giving her a funny face. Mikasa giggled.

"What about dad?"

"He left early in the morning to hunt. He also planned on going by  District of Shigashina to do some errands"

"Oh."

"He'll come back later. You and I are going to have some mommy time. What do you want to do after this? Maybe... draw? Weave? Sightsee? Want me to braid your hair?" Her mother proposed to her, overwhelming her slightly but she knew what activity she wanted to do for today.

"Hm.. I think I want to weave today."

"Ah, I knew you were going to choose that. Sure, we'll do after you finish eating."

Her mom scooted her chair closer to Mikasa  She kissed her head and caressed her silently. Mikasa noted her mother's tummy growing day by day looking like some sort of hill to her. She tried to ignore it as to not offend her mother but she couldn't help her tiny mind growing curious, she blurted out. "Mother, why is your tummy growing like a ball." Her mother who was half way eating a spoon full of rice, stopped abruptly. She chuckled at her daughter's cute childlike inquisitiveness "There might be a new addition to the family!" Her mother said chirpily, clasping her hands together." Oh" She said acting as though she understood what her mother meant. Mikasa's mother went on," Dr. Yeager will come by next week until he confirms our suspicion we will tell you the good news." Mikasa shoved a spoonful of white rice into her mouth, not thinking much of it and quickly forgot about the subject. After eating eggs with white rice and some small portions of fish, they went on to weaving.

Mikasa lifted her miniature blanket that was for her doll, her mother made before Mikasa was born. "I made two dolls before I knew you were going to be a girl. I didn't know your gender yet. So I made a boy and a girl. It took a long time to make one, but I loved it and I hope you do too... my little Mikasa." She said handing the doll to Mikasa as Mikasa started to prepare a blanket for the doll.

"Mom? Does it look good?" She showed it to her mom, who was weaving a hat for her husband.

"Yes of course sweetie. Although... I'm pretty sure your doll wants to see patterns."

"Okay!"

"Mikasa! Honey! I'm home!" Called out her father from the outside, getting home, already making his presence known by his loud jubilant voice "Dad!" Mikasa jumped down running to the door and opened it for her father. There was a light halo around her father, his usual appearance was with him having his usual brown hat, short dirty blond hair, and a long sleeved shirt with a black vest. She hugged him tightly, and quickly returned to her seat to finish making her doll's blanket "Hello sweetheart.. I brought some fish to eat for today. I also have some exciting news to share with you both!" Her father said, delightfully, walking up to Mikasa's mother that was washing the dishes from earlier and endearingly kissed her on the forehead.

"What is it darling?" Her mother asked. stopping what she was doing, she dried her hands with a towel and put all her attention on Mikasa's father.

"When I was on my way home from District Maria i bumped into Mr. Yeager. Remember when you had complaints about that? Mr. Yeager said he didn't have a busy schedule so he will drop by tomorrow." The father picked up a box of fruits and vegetables on the table and he continued, "He also has a son that's around the same age as Mikasa, I've seen him once and he'll introduce them to each other," He turned to MIkasa. "Mikasa, you'll have a playbuddy, a friend to keep you company while I'm away, how does that sound?." He asked while stroking her head affectionately, his attention was always on his daughter, tending to her like a great father he was. Mikasa felt nervous about having a new friend out of nowhere, she fiddled with her hands. She only ever had her mother and father in her life and for a new person to enter her life seemed foreign and outright scary. Her father noted her nervousness quickly and gave a squeeze on her shoulder for reassurance. "It's not scary, I'll make sure Dr. Yeager  brings his son every once in a while until you get comfortable with him. I know you will get along with him just fine." Her father ruffled Mikasa's hair.

"Okay," She looked up at him and gave her father a beaming smile that melted his heart away.

"That's some exciting news, darling. But I'm terrified-to know if it is or isn't what our suspicions are. It's just too soon." Now it was her mother's turn to be reassured by her father, He embraced her holding her chin with his hands and looking deeply into her woeful eyes." I'm certain it is what we believe it is. After all, your belly has been growing. Doesn't that confirm it?" Her mother's worries disappeared. "Your right."  They continued to talk about whatever secret they kept from Mikasa.

Mikasa, uninterested to where the conversation was headed, began to think about the  boy who she was going to meet tomorrow. She began to plan in her head what activities she could do with the visitor.

It was in the evening that Mikasa and her father would play together. He was outside tending the garden that her mother had built herself. "Lets go outside with your father." Her mother said, knowing that around this time,  Mikasa and her father would be playing in the open field in front of their home. Mikasa joined her father who was  finishing tending the garden. Mikasa's mother was sitting in a bench knitting a blanket as she watched them play, she grew a smile watching them fondly. Mikasa and her father were rolling on a tiny hill. "Mom, look at us!" Mikasa yelled trying to get her mothers attention. She looked  to see her mother rubbing her belly gently and looking up at them. "Oh look at you both go." Her mother giggled.

Her father and Mikasa took a break of playing and were now picking up flowers in the section of the forest next to the house. Her father plucked the most beautiful purple flower off the bushes and placed it on her head. "You look like a beautiful flower princess.." He said brushing her hair, he placed a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. Mikasa plucked a pink flower off the ground and did the same as her father." Your a flower king too." She said earnestly. Her father kept staring at her endearingly "You look almost exactly like your mother with hint of me in there." Her father said, tickling her as he did so. She giggled and grinned widely. "Dad, when I grow up I want to be with someone like you who takes care of mommy and loves me plenty." Her father smiled pridefully knowing that his daughter looked up to him.

"I can't wait to meet that special someone of yours. I hope they love you and cherish you as much as I do." The sky was beginning to turn light purple. ."Time flew by didn't it, Mikasa? Let's  head inside."

It was another day just like all the others, a normal day where she treasured the moments with her beloved family.
