Sydney's POVOnce I'm back upstairs and safely inside I lean against the door and bite my lip.
"So! That was fun!" August chirps, poking her head out of the kitchen doorway.
I just nod and keep biting my lip, trying to suppress my enormous smile. It doesn't work. So I concentrate on walking and move into the kitchen.
"Someone's all smiles." She says poking my shoulder as I meet her in the kitchen.
"You and Michael seemed to be having a good time..." I tease, changing the subject.
August rolls her eyes but I can tell she's holding back a smile. "It was nice, just looking at the sky and chatting. I actually got to know him quite a bit."
"Did you guys...." I ask, nudging her shoulder, she gives me a questioning look. "Kiss?!"
August's face goes blank, the she profusely blushes. "Um...no...we didn't." She mutters, "But you and Ashton were really hitting it off..." She quickly changed the subject.
"Yeah. He's really nice...He found out about my parents." I blurt while August stares at me.
"Sweetie, what happened?! Your ok right?" She rushes over and pulls me into a hug.
"Yeah, I'm alright. But it's not a big deal, he handled it like a total gentlemen." I sigh, leaning down to rest my head on her petite shoulder. "For gods sake I cried in front of him! Who does that?"
"You have nothing to be ashamed of, what you went through was horrible, and at that point in your life..." She pulls me an arms length away from her and looks deeply in my eyes.
I nod, "I'm really glad tonight happened." I give August one final squeeze and turn to the fridge. "You hungry? Cuz I'm starving!" I open it up to reveal a pretty pathetic array of food.
"I have a better idea." August says, holding a jar of peanut butter and two spoons.
"You read my mind..."

While watching a movie, August falls asleep on the couch. I drape a blanket over her and turn off the tv. Deciding I should probably head off to bed myself, I grab a glass of water and lock my door, turning off all the lights. The only noises are the air conditioner, my footsteps and August's even breathing. This is such a peaceful way to end tonight. Yet, as I head over to my nightstand to set down the water I know what comes next. My nightly ritual of self- dread. The weigh-in. The glass clanks against wood as I set it down.
Dragging time out for as log as I can, I slowly brush my teeth and rinse my face. Leisurely change into pajamas. Take my time to sit on my bed and take a few sips of water.
Stepping up to the scale still quickens my heartrate. It give it a few seconds the look down. The red needle tips just under 180lbs.
I blink and look again, that can't be right.
"What?" I mumble, amazed. "I actually lost weight?!?" I do a little victory dance out of the bathroom. My number hasn't moved down in forever.
After throughly celebrating my loss of about four pounds I walk over to my dresser. Stroking my fingers on the velveteen ring box I gently slide the ring off my left finger and place in it the box. I kiss the foreheads of both my parents through the glass frame.
"I love you..." I tenderly whisper.
Walking away from the photograph, I turn off the lamp and snuggle into my blankets.
"Goodnight..." I call to no one in particular.
