A/N: Appreciate the beautiful man above before I hurt you (ง •̀_•́)ง
It's been a week of me stewing in the depths of writer's block. So much was written and rewritten and I am not at all confident about this chapter :// It's all in my head, just not coming out the way I want it to bc I've been insecure about my writing almost to the point of being cynical. But here's to hoping it comes out better for anyone who's reading.
Love,
MsNoShelfControl.
"Jieun-ah!," A soft voice called out, drawing my attention to the source behind me. "Do you wanna play with me?" She smiled at me warmly, her beautiful almond eyes sparkling.
Grinning myself, I reached out to grasp her outstretched hand with mine. Giggling to ourselves, we ran barefoot around the blooming garden filled with an array of spring blossoms and their soft fragrance. The sunlight felt warm on my face but not too hot as the gentle breeze passing through coolly kissed our skin and ruffled the swaying skirts of our pretty summer dresses.
"What do you want to play?" I asked, laughing as I watched her spin on her toes like a ballerina.
"Hmmm," she stopped spinning to tap her chin with her index finger thoughtfully, "How about... would you rather?"
"Aren't we too old for that?" I shook my head at her silliness, a goofy smile etched on my own lips.
She pouted, her doll-like face scrunching adorably into the most irresistible puppy-dog eyes I've ever seen. "Please?"
Unable to hold it any longer, I burst into a fit of giggles, "Goodness! Fine, you little brat. Let's play," I grab her hand and pull her down so that both of us were sprawled across the soft bed of grass and staring up at the vibrant blue sky. "You start."
Another one of her bubbly giggles float across the air, "Would you rather... be a bird or butterfly?"
As if on cue, I watched a butterfly flutter across us, its honey colored wings bedecked with black and white dots like jewels as it landed on a sunflower. "That's a hard one. I don't know what to pick, they both fly so I'd be fine with either, I think."
Hearing no response to that, I turn my head towards her to see her curious eyes already fixed on me, an intense thoughtfulness glazing them. Grinning at her, I asked, "What? Do I have something on my face?"
A slow smile curled her baby pink lips, "I think you'd be a butterfly." My eyebrows furrow in confusion at this, "But why? They don't even live as long as birds."
Her head tilted back up towards the dome of the sky as a burst of laughter erupted from her, "I thought you said you'd be fine with either." I shrugged nonchalantly at this.
Calming down a little but with her voice still laced with obvious glee, she spoke again, "While they're both beautiful in their own incomparable ways, I just find butterflies more alluring. They live short lives, yes. But since when does the length of a life equal quality of life?" She turned back to me, holding my eyes in that gaze again as she continued, "They burn bright, just as you do. Most people who admire their beauty don't think about what it takes the butterfly to get there. All they do is flap their pretty little wings across gardens, soothing hearts with their beauty and helping each flower they land on strive further for life."
I stare back at her, a bit dazed at her sudden philosophical comment. Her eyes were speaking volumes and I couldn't read any of it. Laughing nervously, I tease her, "I don't think the butterflies themselves think that much about the meaning of their lives."
