hey, millie,
wonder what you're doing right now,
i was looking at our cloud,
and i thought of you,
oh, the warmth felt cruel
on a day when i should be next to you.hey, millie,
i know you left to the city,
met a guy in chicago
and got married before he could say anything.
come back to michigan.
i miss you now.
you came home for the holidays,
to your parents that passed away,
in this small town of ours.
you lost everything,
and the last i heard was that
you've got platinum hair,
and you're addicted to parlor walls.hey, millie,
heard you're not happy,
heard all you do is wait for your husband to come home,
and talk with your silly friends,
we both know you're not like them.
you never answer the phone,
have i got the wrong number?
it's been a while-
so i must have got the wrong number,
or maybe you just don't want to pick up.you know that millie,
i always loved you from the
day we were 5 and made
snowmen in the cold?
i love you and your red cheeks,
when i called you pretty.
i like the way you sing,
when dancing queen plays on the radio,
and the way you always laugh,
at your dinner table with your father
making horrible jokes.
the way you smiled,
when we were swinging high,
not thinking about the end of time-
not thinking about the future,
or what the future would do to us
we weren't robbed of our future,
our future robbed us.goodbye, millie.
the bombs filled your city,
finally came looking for you,
and it took me weeks, then
we were finally reunited-
but it was just your body,
lying cold on the hotel floor.
buried you in michigan,
surprising how the town stands tall again,
no one hurts a small town like ours.
left you next to your parents,
left flowers on your gravestone,
and everyday i still come visit you.
wish i could take it back,
and tell you the truth.
because if i were to have nothing,
i'd rather have nothing with you.- millie
