Emily sat at a small table in a local cafe as she swung her legs back and forth slightly while tapping her finger tips softly against the cream colour mug resting between her hands.
She was awaiting the arrival of a certain footballer to come from training to meet her for a chat. One that she hoped would clear everything up for her.
Every time the door would open Emily would glance over her shoulder in search of the familiar brown hair she was looking for.
A few minutes the door opened and in came the person she was waiting on.
"I'm so, so sorry. Training ran over and I couldn't get Tammy to stop talking." Mason apologised as he took his seat in front of the Robertson girl.
"It's fine. Don't worry about it." Emily assured him with a small smile.
"So, ready to tell me the reason for you spontaneous trip to London?" Mason asked as he rested his arms on the table and leant forward slightly.
"Sorry to interrupt but can I get you two anything?" An older looking woman with a black apron on questioned as she came to a stop beside their table.
After Emily ordered another coffee and Mason ordered his tea, the woman left with the order paper in her hand leaving them alone again.
"So, ready to talk?" Mason repeated once they were on their own once again.
"How did you know?" Was the first thing Emily asked which caught Mason off guard slightly.
"How did I know what Em?" Mason spoke in confusion.
"You always told me you loved me, how did you know and the how the hell can it not be enough?" Emily said anger and pain clear in her voice before she calmed down after realising how she must have sounded to the midfielder in front of her.
Before Mason could reply, the older woman came back with their coffee and tea. They thanked her before she left them alone once again to continue with their conversation.
"You just know Emily. Trust me, some people throw that word around like it's nothing but I wouldn't do that. My feelings were real, always were." Mason assured her with a smile across his face.
The brunette haired girl took a minute to process the information she had just been told as pieces began to fall into place in her mind.
"Oh my god. I did the exact same thing to you that Neco's doing to me." Emily suddenly realised as she leant back in her seat slightly.
"What are you taking about Em?" Mason asked as he laughed slightly. Emily was practically having a conversation with herself considering Mason had no idea what she was talking about.
"You told me you loved me. And for some reason it wasn't enough for me. And when I said I loved Neco he told me it wasn't enough." Emily told him.
"Okay. Time out. Start from the beginning." Mason spoke to her before Emily started to tell him the whole story from her and Curtis to her and Neco and even the night of James's Charity Gala where it all went wrong.
"Okay. So here's a question. Why wasn't my love enough for you?" Mason asked. He wasn't trying to get back together or wanting her back as much as he actually did, he just wanted to her to see where Neco was coming from when she said the same thing.
"I don't know. You're Mason Mount." Emily replied as she shrugged her shoulders casually.
"Well thank you Captain obvious, I think I know my own name." Mason laughed which caused Emily to laugh and smiled too.
"You know what I mean. You're young, good looking, talented. You could have any girl you want yet you chose some girl from Glasgow who almost broke your phone." Emily recalled the memory from the time the pair met.
"So?" Mason tried to point her in the right direction.
"So?" Emily asked confused as to where he was going with this.
"So you were.....?"
"Insecure." Emily said as she realised what Mason was talking about. "I was insecure because I thought I wasn't enough for you, I thought you could find better. It wasn't that your love wasn't enough for me. I just didn't believe you could love me."
"Did you ever thing that maybe Neco feels that way?" Mason wondered.
"Sorry. Did I hear you right? Have you met Neco Williams? The boy is cocky, confident and outgoing. There's no way he's insecure especially not about me." Emily said as she crossed her arms over her chest and rested them on the table.
"Maybe it's all a guard. People who seem confident often have the biggest insecurities." Mason reminded her.
"So what? I just let him walk away like you did with me?" Emily wondered out loud.
"I didn't let you walk away Emily. You did that yourself, I couldn't control what you did. But, now, maybe I realise what you needed was to walk away from me to find someone you were really meant to be with." Mason explained. It was true. Mason hadn't seen the couple together often but he knew by the way Emily spoke she really loved the Welsh boy.
Mason was always going to have a special place in his heart for Emily and today proved that she felt the same way if she came to him for her. He hoped that if they couldn't be together they could at least be friends.
"So I'm meant to let Neco walk away to find the person he's meant to be with?" Emily still wasn't 100% sure if she knew what Mason was trying to tell her.
"That's up to you. If you really want him, you fight for him. If you think he's better off without you, then you let him go." Mason explained causing Emily to lean back in her seat and sigh as she tried to figure out what her next move is.
