It was Saturday afternoon. It had been a few days after Waverly had told Carmilla and Laura that she liked Nicole. After that night on the roof, Nicole couldn't stop thinking about who Waverly wrote that song about. And she also couldn't stop thinking about if she had a shot at the song being about her. Waverly was currently in her room, listening to some of her 80's vinyls. The first football game of the season was tonight, and Waverly had to mentally prepare to be head cheerleader Waverly, instead of nerd Waverly. She didn't like having to be different people around certain groups. However, that's just how high school works. Hell, maybe that's just how life works.
Waverly had been extra stressed and busy over the last week. Because not only had she had extra cheer practices, but she also had soccer practices starting up. Oh yes, Waverly Earp had yet another aspect of her life that she had to juggle. Soccer Waverly was definitely more like nerd Waverly, but each aspect of herself was a little different. It was all overwhelming to her. Soccer season started a week later than football, so she had time to freak out as she always does before each season. She did have a new reason to be extra excited for soccer season this year. Nicole had mentioned how excited she was to see Waverly both play and cheer, and how she would always be Waverly's number one fan in the stands. Waverly blushed thinking about how much the redhead seemed to enjoy spending time with her. She quickly tried to shake it off, reassuring herself that Nicole would never share the same feelings.
High On You by Survivor was blasting through Waverly's record player, when her phone suddenly buzzed. She got up from her bed to grab the phone from her desk. Her lips formed a tiny smile, and her fears of being a victim of unrequited love vanished after seeing it was a text from Nicole.
Nicole: Hey Waves, you ready for tonight?
Nicole knew how anxious Waverly was for tonight, she always felt like she was going to mess up cheer stunt or something in front of the entire school and never be able to show her face again.
Waverly: As ready as I'll ever be. I'm mostly not ready to be the head cheerleader at the after party for a few hours.
Nicole: Well, actually, we had an idea that you, me, Carmilla, and Laura could all just get food and have a night in to celebrate the first game. Just us. How does that sound?
Waverly smiled, excited that she could spend a night with her friends, and her crush that she was trying so hard to keep a secret.
Waverly: Chrissy might be heartbroken, but I'm sure she can drink an extra beer for me. I'd love to get food with you guys after. You thinking diner food or what Haught?
Nicole: Well duh, I'm not a criminal. Diners are the best, especially after a good game.
Waverly: Well I'll see you guys in a few hours. You're still picking Carm and Laura up first right?
Nicole: Yup! Then your chariot will await you m'lady.
Waverly: Why you are quite the...gentlewoman?
Nicole: I'll take it.
Waverly giggled at the text message, and looked up to see Wynonna smirking in her doorway.
"You know you could knock right?" Waverly tried to be annoyed, but it didn't work as the redhead had put her in a really good mood.
"You know I can tell you're crushing on whoever you're texting right?" Wynonna wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, smirk not fading. Waverly's cheeks became red.
"I don't have a crush on anyone." Waverly said firmly. However, she knew lying to her sister was pointless.
"Yeah, right. Well anyways, you're gonna crush it tonight. I know you always get nervous but you're the best cheerleader on the squad, don't doubt that for a second baby girl." Wynonna came further into Waverly's room to give the smaller girl a hug.
