All it took was a stern look from Schlatt for me to know I should stand beside him. Wilbur bowed his head, gesturing to the microphone.
"But- that's-" My blonde friend seemed at a loss for words.
"Tommy, we're citizens tonight. Let's just see what he has to say." The brunette pleaded, climbing down the steps and into a chair below. The blue eyed boy didn't move, opening and closing his mouth rapidly, unable to form a response.
"Get off my fucking podium." Schlatt commanded, looking at him mercilessly.
"F-Felicity?" I broke when he looked at me. His eyes were vacant but tearful. I couldn't stand watching him lose when after everything he's been through he deserved to win.
"I'm sorry, Tommy... I really am." I replied quietly, watching my friend's face glaze over. He bit his lip, trying to smile at me comfortingly. It just seemed like he couldn't quite bring himself to do it. And if so, I doubt it would have been genuine. Eventually Tommy took a seat beside Wilbur, allowing Quackity, Schlatt and I to step up.
The man with the red tie tapped the mic a few times, clearing his voice.
"Well? That was pretty easy." I swallowed, putting on a brave face. I knew in my heart I'd fucked up.
"And you know what I said the day I got unbanished from L'manberg? The day I said I was running, an election that I won, by the way." He paused for effect, eyes sweeping the shocked audience.
"I said things are gonna change." He was smiling now, but not the type he used when asking me to complete a task. It was his old condescending smirk. And I knew nothing good came of that look.
"I looked every citizen of L'manberg in the eyes and I sad you listen to me! This place will be a lot different tomorrow." Quackity grinned at me. I stared to feel uneasy, Schlatt was building up to something big. We hadn't discussed our first plans, and I was terrified he'd doubled back on our arrangement and cast me aside.
"My first decree as the President of L'manberg... The emperor! Of this great country!" Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.
"Is to revoke-"
"Yes sir!" Quackity yelled, supporting the man sandwiched between us.
"The citizenship of Wilbur Soot and Tommy Innit."
My heart stopped in my chest. I couldn't move, couldn't breath. Every sound was like it came from underwater. I was unable to comprehend what was happening. He'd lied to me! Schlatt had lied! He had no thoughts of giving me power.
In an instant, everything was fast again. My eyes scanned the crowd for Tommy, desperately scouring for the familiar head of blonde hair, my best friend. I spotted him being cornered by Ponk and Punz, looking to Wilbur for guidance.
"TOMMY!" I screamed, attempting to run after them. I felt a strong wrist grab my arm. I turned to see Schlatt scowling distastefully. My heart burned with rage and I tore myself from his grip with strength only adrenaline could provide.
I didn't bother using the stairs, simply jumping of the stage and landing hard on the grass below. I pushed through the crowd, lashing out to get through. My head was pounding, ears being attacked with noise from every side.
"Tommy, Wilbur?!" I yelled again, trying to find them. I swear I heard a faint voice yell my name, but I couldn't be sure.
"Restrain her!" A deep voice commanded from behind. Schlatt. I didn't need to guess that she was referring to me. I scrambled faster, the pressing mass in front of me, turning, armed. I heard a yell of pain and my eyes found Wilbur, one of Punz's arrows imbedded in his shoulder. Tommy paused, helping the older male.
I felt a thousand arms reaching for me, trying to keep me still. Ponk slipped behind me, holding his crossbow to my temple. I started to struggle in his grip.
"I wouldn't." He hissed lowly. I payed no heed to the warning, knowing I was no use to Schlatt dead and they wouldn't kill me. I stomped hard on the man's foot, spinning around and slamming my fist into his jaw. He tumbled to the floor, giving me a chance to run.
"Felicity, no!" I heard Tubbo yell. I also ignored him, heading deeper into the the forest Wilbur and Tommy had fled into. I was aware of the ever encroaching footsteps behind me as the trees whipped past me, hair coming out of the tie and flying out behind me. My lungs were burning but I kept pushing.
I saw a flick of blonde hair in the rising moonlight.
"Tommy?" I called, slowly slightly. I heard the crunch of the September-fallen leaves as he stopped, turning to face me. He eyed me wearily for a second.
"Felicity!"
"Tommy!" I walked over with the intent of embracing my friend, before he stepped back, face unreadable. His eyes flickered with a million thoughts. Wilbur, having turned back appeared by his side. His blue irises swivelled back and forth between me and him. Wilbur looked furious at my presence.
"Felicity, I-" Tommy's words were cut off by the stampede of feet behind us. I made a split second decision.
"Run!" I insisted, turning back. The blonde's eyes widened.
"But-"
"Just go, I'll hold them off!" I implored.
"No, I can't let you get hurt-" He tried to argue. I watched as Wilbur grabbed his arm, pulling him along.
"Don't worry about me, fucking go!" I screamed.
The first of the mob reached my position. I swung my arm, praying I made contact with something vital. In a blur I was easily over powered, a hand grabbing onto my hair, forcing my head back, and a sword to my neck.
"NO!" I heard Tommy scream. I'd never heard him scream before. Not only an hour ago he refused to look at me... And now he was desperately trying to break Wilbur's grip to help me.
I twisted awkwardly to see who had a hold of my head, gasping at the sight of bright orange hair.
"Fundy?!" I cried incredulously. He didn't reply, face like steel. I locked eyes Tommy one last time, seeing the fear painted on his face. Then my vision was over taken by Schlatt's furious face.
"Caught you."
