It had been the best summer of my life. My mother gave me permission to spend it at the Weasleys along with the rest of our friends. Per usual, I woke up to Hermione shaking me to let me know breakfast was ready downstairs. After getting dressed I headed down, and also per usual, I was last at the table.
"Our last breakfast together and you still couldn't pull yourself out of bed earlier." Teased George.
"Oh George leave the poor girl alone, how did you sleep darling?"Asked Molly Weasley with her kind tone.
"Perfect Mrs. Weasley thank you." I sat down and threw a biscuit at George for his remark and everyone laughed. Just as I finished up, Mr. Weasley came down with a huge backpack on his shoulders.
"Is everyone ready?" He questioned. For our last day of break Mr. Weasley was taking us all to the biggest event of summer, the Quidditch World Cup. As everyone stood up I shoved my waffle into my mouth and followed them. I began to hike into the forest to meet one of Mr. Weasleys friends who would help bring everyone there. My legs got tired so Harry put me on his back and carried me the rest of the way until I saw an old man with his son. His very handsome son.
"Amos my friend!" Yelled Mr. Weasley as he dropped his stuff carefully and went to hug him. I couldn't help but notice his son standing behind them. His cheeks were rosy pink, and his hair was soft yet still so shiny beneath the sunlight. He tilted his head at me, and that's when I turned red realizing I was totally staring. I quickly turned away and heard him let out a slight laugh.
"Everybody this is my son Cedric." He lifted his hand saying hello to everybody. "Well right this way friends!" More walking?! Harry heard me let out a huff and laughed at me. As I walked I heard Cedric run up to walk by my side.
"You know it's quite rude to stare and not even offer your name." God there's no way this was happening, I was so embarrassed he noticed.
"My name is May." I rolled my eyes at him, but kept my smile on my face. "Kingsley." I added.
"You look a little tired there May Kingsley, I'm guessing you don't get out much." I couldn't tell if that was an insult or not, but either way I laughed.
"I'm more of a sit and watch the sunrise kind of girl, not a walk towards it." He smiled at me and I instantly felt all the muscles in my body relax. His smile brought me calmness.
"Well then how about next time we just watch it." What was this? Did he just ask me on a date? I've never been asked on a date before, what does being asked out even look like? I simply blushed, but before I had the chance to respond, his father spoke up.
"Here we are folks, this is our ticket!"
Mr. Diggory pointed at an old shoe, and I couldn't help but question his sanity for a minute. Cedric saw my expression and laughed."It's a port key, here everyone put your hand on it." Demanded Cedric. We all put a hand on it and in a moment we were all circling through the air. "Now let go!" I did as told. When we all let go we landed in a new field, and in front of us was what must've been thousands of people with tents.
As we approached ours I couldn't help but question if it could hold even one person, nevertheless all of us. But once again I had to trust the process. Once we went through it revealed a huge space with already decorated interior. "Magical isn't it?" Said Cedric after laying his hand on my shoulder.
"It truly is." I responded looking up in amazement.
"Just wait until you see the arena." Cedric said winking at me. What a flirt he was. We all walked out of the tent and headed towards the arena. Once again I found myself having to walk an excessive amount, only this time upstairs. Cedric wasted no time to make fun of my shortness of breath.
"Blimey dad how far up are we?" Complained Ron.
"Well put it this way, if it rains you'll be the first to know." The question was answered by a man a few flights down. He stood next to..Draco? That must be his father, I suppose he had to gain his lack of manners from somewhere. I tried to ignore him, but as I began to walk off, the man stuck out his walking stick and hit Harry's hand.
"Do enjoy yourself, while you can.""Are you threatening him in public right now? I'd watch it if I were you." I spoke up in his defense, but Harry grabbed my hand and pulled me back over.
"Don't even bother May." The two of us caught up with everyone else and continued to the very top of the arena. As we reached the balcony and looked out, I couldn't decide if I was terrified of how high we were or in awe. Wow was Cedric right. I stood in between Cedric and Harry as I looked over the arena speechless. Suddenly a man came on overhead and introduced the first team. The crowd went crazy as they announced the Bulgarian team, but they lost their minds when one Viktor Krum flew out. I didn't understand the big deal, but didn't wanna say anything.
"Who's that?" Asked Ginny, the Weasleys youngest sister, as if she read my mind.
"That sis, is the best seeker in the world!" Explained Fred. However, Cedric suddenly seemed unimpressed as Viktor flew by and sent an unexpected wink in my direction.
"I'm just as good as him you know." He whispered into your ear. All I did was roll my eyes, but he was satisfied with the smile he left on my face. The match was over and the Bulgarians won the world cup. We all retired to our tent, but were woken up by loud crashes outside.
"Everyone wake up! We need to get out now!" Urged Mr. Weasley as we all rubbed your eyes.
"Why is everyone still celebrating so late?" Questioned Fred as he wiped the drool off of his face.
"That's no celebration Freddy, it's death eaters." That phrase quickly woke us all up completely. I ran out of the tent and the entire venue was on fire. I stood there in panic for a minute when I saw Cedric run over and grab my hand.
"Come with me!" He tugged me along with him and I blindly followed.
"Cedric wait! What about everyone else?!" I suddenly realized and pulled my hand away, but Cedric quickly grabbed hold of it again before I did something stupid.
"They'll be okay, they have each other, but you need to be somewhere safe!" He urged, and I followed him. The two of us ran and didn't stop. He pulled me back to where the port key was, and we stayed there awaiting everyone else. Thankfully, the port key was far enough away from the mess of the death eaters that I could relax. Cedric sat down, but I couldn't stop pacing around. "So now you enjoy walking?" He said trying to lighten the mood.
"I don't enjoy wondering if my friends are coming back safely if that's what you mean."
I snapped, but instantly felt bad."Sorry, I just wanted to relax you." He said with a faded smile. I sighed and sat down next to him.
"No I'm sorry. Thank you Cedric, you got me out of there." I yawned and rested my head on his shoulder. He smirked to himself knowing I was lying there on him, but the two of us were interrupted as I saw everyone else walk over to where we were.
"Harry!" I screamed into Cedrics ear making him open his eyes as I jolted up. Harry tightly hugged me, not knowing if I was alright. The sight of this made Cedric frown slightly.
"May how did you get out of there?" He asked holding onto my shoulders.
"Cedric took care of me." I said looking back at him with a smile, which brought the light back to his eyes. Harry simply gave Cedric a nod and he gave one back. "Are you okay Harry?"
"I'm fine, just shaken up." He was holding back information, I could tell, and I was assuming it had to do with the dark mark in the sky. But I wouldn't pry it out of him tonight. Tomorrow was my first day back at Hogwarts, and what a year I was in for.
